243 (Regular Meeting of the City Council Austin Texas Jany 10ᵀᴴ 1900 Hon Jno. D. McCall Mayor presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Dunham Glass Mortimer Nolen and Strumff Absent Aldermen Faulken & Morris On motion of Alderman Dunham the minutes were approved as recorded by the Clerk without reading. Petitions memorials etc none Reports of Standing Committees Report printing Alderman Glass for the Printing Committee, presented a Comm. Newspaper report stating that they had advertised for bids for doing Printing 1900 the Newspaper printing for the year ending Dec. 31ˢᵗ 1900. and had received one bid from the Tribune Publishing Company, Contract award which they submitted with the report, and recommended that Tribune said bid be accepted and the Mayor authorized to enter into Contract with said Tribune Pub. Co upon the terms proposed in said bid. The report was adopted. Unfinished business Corporation Court The Mayor laid before the Council the Corporation Court ordinance ord, laid over which was on motion of Alderman Dunham laid over until next meeting the next regular meeting of the Council. Appropriation The Mayor then laid before the Council an ordinance appropriating $2750⁰⁰ to pay the sum of $2750.⁰⁰ to pay interest due Jany 1ˢᵗ 1900. on the water Int. W & L bonds and Light-bonds of the CityJany 1900 The ordinance was read the 3rd time and passed by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Dunham Glass Mortimer Nolen & Strumff 5 Nays None. New Business Report Finance Alderman Strumff for the Finance Committee presented a Comm – purchase report stating that they had purchased for the sinking fund water sinking fund of the water & Light bonds of the City, The following 5% water W & L bonds * and Light bonds Viz Nos. 598.599 and 600. And that they had purchased W & L bonds for the sinking fund of bonds issued prior to May 1ˢᵗ 1890. The following bonds Viz Nos. 601.602. and 603. 5% water & Light bonds of the Old bonds City of Austin. That said bonds were purchased at par and X accrued interest and ¼ of 1% Commission to the Broker. Also to levy tax An appropriation of $3800. out of each of said funds having been Com on W & L heretofore appropriated for the purchase of these bonds. They submitted bonds purchased with their report an ordinance appropriating the sum of $491.⁰⁰ out W & L bonds of the sinking fund of the water & Light bonds and a similar ordinance appropriating a like amount out of the sinking fund of the bonds issued prior to May 1ˢᵗ 1890. to pay accrued interest, Commissions and exchange of the bonds purchased. The ordinance was read the first time and on Motion was referred to the ordinance Committee ord amending By Alderman Stumph An ordinance amending Section one ord levying tax of An ordinance levying taxes for the year 1899 1899 The ordinance was read the first time and on motion was referred to the ordinance Committee Alderman Nolan offered the following resolution which was read and adopted. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Resolution to publish That the Mayor is hereby directed to make publication Notice to persons through the daily papers of the City for ten consecutive days whose assesments and and give notice that all persons whose assessments have been have been changed by the changed by the Board of equalization have the right, under to appeal to certain provisions of the City Charter, to appeal to the City Council Council for a revision of the decision of said board of equalization, after first appearing before said board of equalization and protesting against such change 2. Should the said Board of equalization refuse to grant the application of any property holder for a revision of the Valuation as placed by said board, then said property holder has the privilege as well as right to present his appeal to the City Council for revision and change from the Valuation placed by said board of equalization. Alderman Mortimer presented the following resolution which was read and adopted.
