Austin Street Improvements & Bridge Plans 1900

Street Work Contract: City Council approved hiring four inspectors (later expanded to include the 1st Ward) to oversee a street improvement contract with Pat Rail Co, with the company's required bond reduced from $3,000 to $1,000.

Bridge Construction: The Street Committee was authorized to re-advertise for bids to build new bridges across Waller Creek on both East 5th Street and 7th Street.

Future Street Work: The City Engineer was directed to deploy city teams to work on Lamar Street in the Second Ward once bridge construction work was completed.

Mayor presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Dunham Fischer Glass Mortimer Nolen Schneider Strumff Absent None The following Call of the Council was read Austin Texas Nov 1st 1900 A special meeting of the City Council is hereby Called to meet in the Council Chamber at 6 o'clock P.M. this 1st day of Nov 1900, for the purpose of taking such action as may be deemed advisable, concerning street improvements, and the appropriation heretofore made, and resolution adopted regarding street works. Jno. W. Mc Call. Mayor W. A. Glass. 7th Ward C. B. Dunham 6th ward Joseph Strumff 4th ward. I accept service of the above Notice Dunham Glass.. J.P. Schneider H.K. Nolen Austin Texas Nov 1st 1900 I hereby Certify that I have this day served the within Call for a special meeting of the City Council by reading the same to the following named Aldermen, to wit: W.A. Glass C.B. Dunham Joseph Strumff J.P. Schneider H. Nolen O.S. Mortimer and Francis Fischer A.G. Sharps City Marshal Bond of The Mayor stated that Pat Rail Co had presented a bond Pat Rail Co signed by three parties, and that he would furnish one for such additional bond as soon as a morning meeting. presented Alderman Glass offered the following resolution Engineer to Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin That the City appoint Engineer is hereby authorized to appoint four inspectors for inspection of the 4th 5th 6th and 7th wards to Check Yards, Gravel, Audit Time Works. Checks &c. under the Contract with Pat Rail Co Alderman Nolen offered the following as an Amendment to the resolution "That the City Engineer be authorized to employ such assistants as he may deem necessary for the interest of the City, and to include the 1st Ward!" The Amendments was adopted and the resolution as amended was then adopted Alderman Glass moved to reduce the amount of the Bond of Pat Rail Co from $3000. to $1000. which motion prevailed --- Page break --- 386 St Com to Alderman Mortimer moved that the Street Committee Re-advertise for be authorized to re-advertise for bids for building a New & 7th bridge across Waller Creek on East 5th Street on 7th Street bridge which motion prevailed Alderman Schneider offered the following resolution City Engineer which was read and adopted. to order Be it resolved that the City Engineer be requested to order Lamar St all City teams to work on Lamar a street in the Second Ward after he is through with the work on bridges On motion the Council adjourned.
