• Legislative Advocacy – State Representative E.A. Moore addressed the council about pending legislation concerning a railroad depot building project by the C.R.R. & B.

Minutes of a meeting of the City Council held Saturday April 06, 1901.
Hon Jno. B. McGeall Mayor presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Durham Fischer Glass Mortimer Koen Schneider and Stumpf Absent none. A Alderman Fischer moved that a Committee of three be appointed to Canvass the Vote Cast April 1st, 1901. for the Various City officers, which motion prevailed The Mayor appointed Aldermen Fischer Mortimer & Koen as the Committee The Council took a recess, to await the report of the Committee Council Called to order. The Committee appointed to canvass the Vote presented the following report. Hon Jno. B. McGeall, Mayor and the Board of Aldermen City of Austin Gentlemen Your special Committee appointed to Canvass the Vote Cast at an election held April 1st, 1901. To elect a Mayor and seven Aldermen and the various other officers, as provided for by the City would respectfully report the following as the result of the Canvass. Viz For Mayor W.A. Alderman M. Portman offered the following resolution, which was read and unanimously adopted. Resolution Resolution & Whereas the time has arrived when by limitation our mutual Thanks to relations and association in a business capacity as public Hon. H. servants must cease, and whereas we realize that we likely Portman will never meet again in a civic capacity—therefore be it— resolved That the thanks of this body be and is hereby extended to the Presiding officer for the uniformity Courtesy and impartial ruling in which he has discharged his duty at all times with due regard for every member (A) W. Portman The Mayor in a few words expressed his thanks for expressions contained in the resolution.
Committee Alderman Glass moved that a Committee of three be To Notify appointed by the Mayor to escort the newly elected Mayor and Mayor & Board of Aldermen unto the Council Chamber, and that the oath Board of of office be administered to them by the Mayor, whose motion prevailed. Aldermen The Mayor appointed Aldermen Glass, Crocker and Dunham as such Committee.
The Committee retired and in a few minutes with the newly elected Board of Aldermen, and reported that the Mayor elect could not be found. Committee The Mayor administered the oath of office to the newly elected Administered Aldermen and they were escorted by the Committee to their Oath to seats in the Council Chamber. The old Board of Aldermen having Retired.
The roll was ordered called and the following named Aldermen responded:Aldermen Gillis, Lohr, Rischke, Schneider, Shumake, Krumpe. All of the Board being present the Mayor, as well as the Committee were, in business.

Moore [illegible] Member of the Legislature from this County being present Address was invited to address the Council regarding certain legislation Legislation had in the present Legislature looking to the erection of a depot building by the C.R.R. & B. Election of Alderman Vilschke moved that the Council now proceed President to the election of a President of the Council, which motion prevailed Nomination Nominations being declared in order Alderman Shumate Vote nominated Alderman Shelley. On motion nominations were Declared closed and the clerk directed to cast the entire vote of the Council for Alderman Shelley which was done. The Mayor declared Alderman Shelley duly elected President of the Council for the ensuing term On motion the Council adjourned. Jno. B. Johnson City Clerk.
