Petitions, Memorials &c. Petition of By the Mayor. Petition of Wm Eckols asking permission to Wm Eckols operate a gas steam Engine, on the street to roast peanuts. to operate a gas and pop-Corn. Engine on street Read, and, on motion, referred to Street Committee By Alderman Shelley. Petition of L. H. Culver to remit pound L. H. Culver feesto remit Pound fees Read and referred to Police Committee- Judge Wm Von Rosenberg By the Mayor. A communication from Judge Wm Von Rosenberg asking to have stating that he had been duly elected as Recorder of the Recorders Court Corporation Court of the City of Austin on the 1st day of April established. 1901. and asking when it was the pleasure, of the Council that he should proceed to the discharge of his duties. Alderman Stumpf moved to refer the communication to the ordinance Committee Alderman Davis moved as a substitute that the communication be laid on the table - The motion to table was lostby the following vote. Yeas Aldermen Crooker, Davis, Low and Stumpf - 4 Nays Aldermen Hume, Nitschke, Redd, Schneider Shelley and [illegible] - 6 The communication was then referred to the ordinance Committee Pat Connersley and By Alderman Stumpf. Petition from Pat Connersley and W. F. Hanley W. F. Hanley asking remission of pound fees. to remit Pound fees Read and on motion referred to Police CommitteeReports of Standing Committees Report A. Wilke Alderman Nitschke for the Street Committee to whom was reon A. Wilke ferred the petition of A. Wilke for damages to horse presented a report recommending that the petition be not granted. The report of the committee was adoptedReport H. H. Keller Alderman Nitschke for the Street Committee to whom on H. H. Keller was referred the petition of H. H. Keller for damages presented a report recommending that the petition be not granted. The report was adopted. [illegible]. 497 said amendments. The report of the committee was adoptedAlderman Nitschke for the Street Committee to whom was referred a petition of Mrs. E. M. Sexton asking that the Council refund to her an amount paid by her for repairing side walk, damaged by oil, caused by the City in removing cobble, stones from gutters presented, a verbal report recommending that the petition be not granted. On motion the petition was referred back to the Street Committee. Alderman Stumpf, for the Finance Committee, to whom was referred an ordinance appropriating the sum of $500.00 to Complete East Austin Fire Hall presented - a report recommending the passage of the Ordinance. The report was adoptedAlderman Stumpf for the ordinance Committee to whom was referred an ordinance prescribing and defining what shall constitute a days work on all public works of the City of Austin - presented, a report recommending the adoption of the ordinanceThe report of the Committee was adopted - Alderman Stumpf for the ordinance Committee to whom was referred an ordinance repealing articles 35 and 36 of the Revised Penal ordinances of the City, presented, a report recommending the passage of the ordinanceThe report of the Committee was adopted - Alderman Brandon entered the Council ChamberAlderman Stumpf for the purchasing Committee presented the following report. Austin, Texas May 20th 1901 To The Hon. R. E. White, Mayor and Board of alderman of the City of Austin - Gentlemen:- Your committee on purchases beg leave to report that they have advertised for, and received, bids for supplies for the City for the quarter ending August 31st 1901, and should recommend the acceptance of the following bids viz: For supplies for the City and County Hospital. Messrs. Geo. S. Criser Y. C. & H. B. Smith and Fischer & Bro. For feed for City Teams Robinsons Bro's " Shoeing City Mules Svend Martins " Repairs [illegible] (Ollie Bergstrom) " Coal for Steam boiler The [illegible] B. [illegible] " Meats for City prisoners. J. W. [illegible] would further recommend that the Mayor be authority ed to enter into contract with the parties named in.

498 accordance, with their respective, bonds, upon their filing with the City Clerk, bonds as required, which bonds must be approved by the Mayor. J.P. Schneider Joseph Stumpf. On motion, the report of the Committee, was adopted.
Unfinished business The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance repealing arts 35 & 36 of the Revised General Ordinances of the City, together with the report of the ordinance Committee recommending its passage, The ordinance was read the second time and on motion, the rules was suspended, and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage, by the following vote. Yeas, Aldermen, Crooker, Davis, Low, Maddox, Mitschke, Reed Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf, and Ullah - 10 Nays, Aldermen Hume - 1 The ordinance was then read the third time, and passed.
The Mayor then laid before the Council, an ordinance appropriating the sum of $5000- to repair East Austin, Fire Hall, the ordinance was passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote: Yeas, Aldermen Crooker, Davis, Hume, Low, Maddox, Mitschke, Reed, Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf, and Ullah - 11 Nays, none. - 0
The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance appropriating the sum of $5000- for street work, on East 6th Street together with the amendments proposed by the Street Committee The ordinance was read the second time. Alderman Schneider moved to amend the ordinance by striking out all after the word "6th Street" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "from Haller Street West." The amendment was adopted, and the ordinance as, amended, was passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote. Yeas, Aldermen Crooker, Davis, Hume, Low, Maddox, Mitschke, Reed, Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf, and Ullah Nays, none.
New Business. By Alderman Davis, an ordinance appropriating the sum of $400- for certain street work. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion, was referred to the Street Committee.
By Alderman Shelley an ordinance appropriating the sum of $72.00- to pay salaries of officers staying from May 1st to Dec 31st/1911

Sac Drivers By Alderman Shelley an ordinance appropriating of Teams the sum of $1860.ºº to pay salaries of Drivers of Street Teams from May 1st to December 31st 1901.The ordinance was passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote:Yeas Alderman Crowter, Davis, Hume, Low, Maddox, Mitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf & Ullit. 11 Nays – none. 0
Sal Engineer By Alderman Shelley an ordinance appropriating the sum on Roller of $600.ºº to pay the Salaries of the Engineer on Steam Roller from May 1st to Dec 31st 1901. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion the rule was suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading by the following vote.Yeas Alderman Crowter, Davis, Hume, Low, Maddox, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf and Ullit. 10 Nays Alderman Mitschke. 1
The ordinance was read the second time.- Alderman Schneider moved to strike out the caption and in section 1 of the ordinance the words "Six Hundred" and insert in lieu thereof the words "Seventy Five". The amendment was adopted by the following vote:Yeas Alderman Crowter, Hume, Mitschke, Redd & Schneider 6 and Ullit. Nays Alderman Davis, Low, Maddox, Shelley and Stumpf – 5 Alderman Schneider moved to further amend the ordinance by striking out in section 1 of the ordinance the words – from "May 1st to Dec 31st" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "for the month of May" which motion prevailed The ordinance was then passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote:Yeas Alderman Crowter, Davis, Hume, Low, Maddox, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Stumpf and Ullit 10

500 Mayor W. Legman Mad.doy Alderman Schneider offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted. Be it resolved that the Ordinance Committee be requested to present to the Council an ordinance to regulate the inspection of weights and measures. The Mayor laid before the Council a deed from the H.J. Lemp Brewing Co. to a certain strip of ground to be used for street purposes, together with the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that pursuant to the act of the William J. Lemp Brewing Company, by its deed of dedication of dated the 20th day of April, A.D. 1901, in dedicating to the City of Austin for the purpose of street use, that certain strip fifteen feet in width along and on the West end of the tract of 9.00 acres conveyed the said Company by Paul Pressler et al, by deed of date February 6th, 1893, in out-Lot No. one, in Division "Z" of the City of Austin, Texas, be and the same is hereby accepted. The field notes of said strip being set out in said deed of dedication, and calling to begin on the north line of said out-Lot at the N.W. Corner of said two and 9/100 acre tract, and to run Easterly with West Sixth Street fifteen feet, thence S. 2°W. to the North line Fifth Street, thence Westerly fifteen feet to the S.W. Corner of said two and 9/100 acre tract, and thence with its West line to the place of beginning. Be it further resolved that said strip with the adjoining land, 25 feet in width, dedicated by Guy and H. Pressler et al, and joining the same on the West, be designated and known by the name of Pressler Street. On motion the resolution was adopted. The Mayor laid before the Council the bill of the Water and Electric Light and Power Plant of the City, for Water and Light furnished the City for the month of April 1901... which was read, and on motion referred to the Water and Light Committee.
Comm. From Alderman Mud.dox presented and read by the To investigate Clerk an extract from the Evening News regarding sale Austin City of lots by the Austin City Cemetery Association. Cemetery Association. On motion the matter contained in the extract was referred to a special Committee of the Mayor and City Attorney for investigation. The Mayor appointed Ald. W. S. Robison and Schneider to investigate.
The Finance Com. had before Committee estimates by the Manager for repairs on the City Hall, & P.R. Dept., on motion referred to the Finance Committee without delay.

501 On motion the appointments of Mr. Henry Gilleu and Wm. Milby as assistant assessors and Collectors by the # Gilleu Wm. Milby assessors & Collectors were Confirmed. Confirmed as By Alderman Nitschke an ordinance appropriating aut Assessors the sum of $200.00 to pay for extra street labor and teams & Collectors. The ordinance was passed under Suspension of the $200. for extra rules by the following votest labor teams Yeas Aldermen Crooker, Davis, Hughes, Low, Maddox, Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Shrimpf and Ullit 11 Nays none 0
Alderman Crooker moved that the Council now proceed to the election of a Dog Catcher and one Assistant Dog Catcher, which motion prevailed. The Mayor appointed Aldermen Redd, Ullit and Nitschke as tellers. Los Evans Alderman Davis nominated Los. Evans. Q. W. Oglesby The Mayor laid before the Council a petition of Citizens asking the appointment of A. W. Oglesby as dog catcherA. & Hattie Alderman Nitschke nominated A. & H. Hattie. Nominated The tellers announced the following as the result of the ballot for Dog Catcher Evans - 9 Hattie - 2 - Los Evans The Mayor declared Los. Evans, duly elected Dog Catcher elected for the ensuing term.
Alderman Maddox nominated Hal Mason for assistant Dog Catcher. Hal Mason The Clerk was directed to cast the entire Elected Asst. vote of the Council for Hal Mason, which was done Dog Catcher and the Mayor declared him duly elected as assistant Dog Catcher for the ensuing term -
Ass. & Col. On motion of Alderman Maddox the City Assessor and authorized to Collector was authorized to employ two additional employ 2 Ady. Clerks for ten days to assist in his office. for 10 days The Mayor announced the following as the standing Committees for the term -
Standing Water & Light: Committees Hume, Schneider and Shelley. appointed Streets: Nitschke, Hume, and Maddox. Finance: Maddox, Hume, Schneider. Fire Department: Schneider, Redd & Shrimpf Police: Shelley, Shrimpf and Maddox.
