Shelley, President of the Council, presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Crooken, Davis, Low, Maddox Mortimer, Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Shumate Stumpff, Uelich. 12 Absent Alderman Hume 1 The following Call of the Council was read Austin, Texas, April 10th 1903 A special session of the City Council is hereby Called Call of Council to meet in the Council Chamber in the City Hall at 8 o’clock P.M. Saturday April 11th 1903, for the purpose Canvass returns of Canvassing the returns of the City election on April of Election. 6th 1903, declaring the result of said election and installing the newly elected officers; and for electing and fixing the terms of service and compensation of the minor officers to be elected by the Council and for the further purpose of opening the bids for the deposits of City funds. Alderman Crovsen moved that a Committee of three be appointed to Canvass the Vote cast at the annual City election and report the result to this Council which motion prevailed. The Chair appointed Alderman Hume, Mortimer and Lowe as such Committee The special Committee appointed to Canvass the Vote Cast at the late election, presented the following report, which was read and adopted. To the Mayor and City Council of the City of Austin: Gentlemen! 4 Alderman Mortimer offered the following resolution which was unanimously adopted by a rising vote. Whereas, the present membership of the Council of the of Austin, is dissolved by limitation, and Whereas, we desire to express our gratitude and appreciation for the Complimentary resolution Mayor White uniform courteous treatment received at the hands of our & President of the Council Mayor and President of the City Council Shelley J.D. Shelley, Be it resolved that a rising vote of thanks, be extended to these Aldermen, and further, Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be inscribed in the minutes of this Council meeting and in a set apart in this purpose, as the [illegible] and [illegible] of unpleasant Old Council adjourned association will be inscribed on the tablets of memories, for sine die in the years to come. Absent: None. The chair declared the Council ready for business, and that the first business in order would be the election of a President of the Council for the ensuing term. B. Nitschke nominated Alderman Haddas nominated Alderman Nitschke B. Shelley nominated Alderman Shumate nominated Alderman Shelley for President On motion nominations were closed. The chair appointed Aldermen Sims & Willan as tellers. The tellers announced as a result of the ballot that Alderman Shelley had received 6 votes, and Alderman Nitschke had received 5 votes. Shelley elected The chair announced that Alderman Shelley having received President Council a majority of the votes cast, was duly elected as President of the Council for the ensuing term. 6 W.L. Nitsche Alderman Nitsche moved that nominations close and elected Sexton that Clerk be directed to cast the entire vote of the Council for W.L. Nitsche for City Sexton which motion prevailed, and the Clerk cast 14 votes for W.L. Nitsche for City Sexton. The Chair announced that W.L. Nitsche having received a majority of the votes cast was duly elected City Sexton of the City of Austin for the ensuing term of two years. Nominations for Bridge Keeper being declared in order, F.E. Malone, L.G. Lock Alderman Redd nominated B.E. Malone, E.K. Miller & F. Preese Alderman Shumate, by request, nominated L.G. Lock nominated for Bridge Alderman Miller, and Frank Preese for City Sexton of Bridge Keeper. Keeper. Nominations were then closed. F.E. Malone elected The Tellers announced the following as the result of the ballot. Bridge Keeper. Malone 8 Miller 3 Preese 2. The Chair declared that F.E. Malone having received a majority of all the votes cast, was duly elected Bridge Keeper for the ensuing term of two years. Mrs Hamilton Nominations for Matron of the City and County Hospital elected Matron of were declared in order. the Hospital Alderman Schneider nominated Mrs P. Hamilton Alderman Maddas moved that nominations close and that the Clerk be directed to cast the unanimous vote of the Council for Mrs P. Hamilton, which motion prevailed, and the Clerk Cast 14 votes for Mrs P. Hamilton for Matron of the City and County Hospital. The Chair declared Mrs P. Hamilton, duly elected as Matron of the City-County Hospital for the ensuing term of two years. Nominations for Porter at the City Hall being declared in order. W.L. Harrison Alderman Nitsche nominated W.L. Harrison elected Porter at City Alderman Redd moved that nominations close Hall. and that the Clerk be directed to cast the entire vote of the Council for W.L. Harrison, which motion prevailed and the vote cast by the Clerk as directed The Chair declared W.L. Harrison elected Porter at the City Hall for the ensuing term of two years. Standing Committees The Chair then laid before the Council the list of Standing Announced. Committees of the Council as made by the Mayor. The Chair then laid before the Council the bond of City Engineer Bond of H.G. Lee elect H.G. Lee, which was referred to the Finance Committee City Engineer presented for investigation and report. referred to Finance Alderman Maddas for the Finance Committee to Committee. whom was referred the bond of H.G. Lee, City Engineer elect presented a verbal report stating that they had examined same and recommended that it be approved by the Council.

W.G. Haddox & W.H. Harrison sworn in
On motion the bond of W.G. Lee as City Engineer of the City of Austin, was approved. The following named officers elected by the Council were sworn in by Judge Fred Carleton, Viz: W.G. Haddox as Pound Master and W.H. Harrison as Porter at the City Hall. On Motion the Council adjourned Jno. G. Johnson City Clerk 7
