Hume. 1 On motion the Minutes were approved as recorded by the clerk, without reading. Citizens to repeal Sidewalk By Ald. Shelley, petition of Citizens asking the Council ordinance an ordinance repealing an ordinance widening the side walks on Congress Avenue. The petition was read. Citizens invited to address Ald. Maddox moved that the petitioners be Council invited to address the Council on the subject of the petition. Ald. Shelley moved as a substitute that the regular order of business, be suspended, and that the Council take up and Consider the Ordinance, the substitute was lost by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Haynes, Miller, Shelley, Smith, Weilch 5 Nays Aldermen Crooker, Macken, Maddox, Moore Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shumate 8 The Motion of Alderman Maddox was adopted by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Crooker, Haynes, Macken, Maddox Miller, Moore, Nitschke, Redd, Shelley, Shumate Smith, Weilch. 12 Nays Alderman Schneider. 1 Mess H.P. North, A. Eilers & W. Scarborough and Alfred Smith addressed the Council Alderman Schneider moved that all ex Aldermen present be invited to seats within the bar of the Council which on motion prevailed. On motion the petition was laid over to come up with an ordinance on the subject J.B. Beard to refund By the Mayor, Petition of J.B. Beard asking to have Certain Pound fees Pound fees refunded. Read and on motion referred to the Committee on claims and accounts. L.D. Cameron to refund By Alderman Moore. Petition of L.D. Cameron to Pound fees have Certain Pound fees refunded. Read and on motion referred to the Committee on claims & account. Reports of City Officers Officer reports The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the Marshall and Engineer for the month of Feby 1907. Which were on motion referred to an appropriate Committee without reading. --- Page break --- 161 Standing Committees Parks on streets Pease Park Fireman house Pease Park. Side walk ordinance To pay second installment due old Water Co To permit owners of real estate to redeem same. -New business Alderman Shumate presented a resolution granted to the fireman the use of Pease Park for their annual picnic to be given 21st of April 1904. The resolution was adopted. Alderman Shumate for the Park Committee to whom was referred the matter of a street from West 12th Street to Pease Park, presented a verbal report stating that they had obtained a deed to the City for the street mentioned. By Alderman Shelley an Ordinance amending the Sidewalk ordinance - The ordinance was read the first time. Alderman Maddow offered the following resolution Resolved that the petitioners appoint a Committee of five, seven or nine from the citizens of Austin to confer with the City Council and suggest a plan or method of improving the avenue and that said Committee or Conference shall make their report to the next regular meeting of the City Council. Alderman Haynes moved to amend the resolution by making the Committee fourteen. The amendment was accepted by Alderman Maddow, and the resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas. Aldermen Crocken, Haynes, Machen, Maddow Miller, Moore, Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Shumate Smith, Wileit Nays none. On Motion Alderman Crooken was excused from further attendance at this session of the Council. By Alderman Maddow An ordinance appropriating the sum of $22.50.00 for the purpose of paying the second Installment to become due the old water Company on April 1st, 1904. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Haynes, Machen, Maddow, Miller, Moore Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Shumate, Smith and Wileit. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion Was referred to the Park Committee Plumbing Ordinance By Alderman Shumate An ordinance Providing for the proper Construction of Plumbing and House drainage, and materials to be used within the Corporate limits of Austin Texas The ordinance was referred to the ordinance Committee, with instructions to report at the next meeting Invitation South Austin fire The invitation laid before the Council an invitation from Co to dedication of new South Austin Hose Co #5 to the Council to attend the Hall. dedication of their new fire hall on the evening of March 29th 1904. On motion the invitation was accepted. By Alderman Madday An ordinance Approved a/cs Ord. appropriating the sum of $180.26 for the purpose of Paying approved accounts.
