Hume. 1 On motion the Minutes were approved as recorded by the clerk, without reading. Citizens to repeal Sidewalk By Ald. Shelley, petition of Citizens asking the Council ordinance an ordinance repealing an ordinance widening the side walks on Congress Avenue. The petition was read. Citizens invited to address Ald. Maddox moved that the petitioners be Council invited to address the Council on the subject of the petition. Ald. Shelley moved as a substitute that the regular order of business, be suspended, and that the Council take up and Consider the Ordinance, the substitute was lost by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Haynes, Miller, Shelley, Smith, Weilch 5 Nays Aldermen Crooker, Macken, Maddox, Moore Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shumate 8 The Motion of Alderman Maddox was adopted by the following vote Yeas Aldermen Crooker, Haynes, Macken, Maddox Miller, Moore, Nitschke, Redd, Shelley, Shumate Smith, Weilch. 12 Nays Alderman Schneider. 1 Mess H.P. To permit owners of real estate to redeem same. -New business Alderman Shumate presented a resolution granted to the fireman the use of Pease Park for their annual picnic to be given 21st of April 1904. The resolution was adopted. Alderman Shumate for the Park Committee to whom was referred the matter of a street from West 12th Street to Pease Park, presented a verbal report stating that they had obtained a deed to the City for the street mentioned. By Alderman Shelley an Ordinance amending the Sidewalk ordinance - The ordinance was read the first time. Alderman Maddow offered the following resolution Resolved that the petitioners appoint a Committee of five, seven or nine from the citizens of Austin to confer with the City Council and suggest a plan or method of improving the avenue and that said Committee or Conference shall make their report to the next regular meeting of the City Council. Alderman Haynes moved to amend the resolution by making the Committee fourteen. The amendment was accepted by Alderman Maddow, and the resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas. Aldermen Crocken, Haynes, Machen, Maddow Miller, Moore, Nitschke, Redd, Schneider, Shelley, Shumate Smith, Wileit Nays none. On Motion Alderman Crooken was excused from further attendance at this session of the Council.
