Report Street Committee on Storm Sewer, with final estimate
Alderman Hume for the Street Committee presented the following report Austin, Texas, April 15th, 1906. To the Hon. R. A. White, Mayor, and Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin. Gentlemen: Your Committee on Streets who have had in charge the construction of the Storm sewer on Congress Avenue beg leave to make this their final report on the work. The following is a summary of the estimates and final report made by the local Engineer in charge of the work. The Total Amount paid and to be paid the Contractor including the extra work is $ 15,632.42 The following amounts have been paid and to be paid outside of the Contractors work. Lowering N.W. Gov. Sewer between 1st & 2nd streets $250.00 Raising water main on 6th & Congress Ave $71.16. Locating water pipes and miscellaneous expenses shown in full in the Engineers Report 11.00 Salary of engr. and inspection as shown in full by the Engr's report 1136.27 Total 1768.43 Total Cost of Construction $ 17,400.85 He begs to attach the estimates as made by the Engineer in charge and his final report on the work including the report of the inspection made by the Consulting Engineer and the report of the final inspection made by the local Engineer. The work of the construction of the Storm sewer was begun on the 9th day of Nov. 1903 and completed on the 9th day of April, 1904, which time was within the limits allowed the Contractor to complete the work, allowing him credit for delays for which he was not accountable. The openings on all side streets are now ready to take the water having temporary coverings over them. The openings on Congress Ave are not yet opened nor can they be until the sidewalk extension question is settled and the curb finally located. All of these openings (26) twenty six in number still have to be covered with an iron grating. These gratings Vary in price from $25.00 to $75.00 each, the approximate cost being $1300.00. This added to the total cost of the sewer to date will make a total of $ 18,700.85.

169 Your Committee have watched this work from its Beginning to its completion and we are well satisfied that the Contractors have complied with their Contract and have filled the Contract in every particular and we recommend that the balance of $21392⁵⁸ be paid to the Contractors in final settlement Before closing our report we wish to thank the local Engineer Inspection for his courtesy, as well as for his faithful and efficient service We trust that the work meets with the approval of Your Honorable body.
