Petitions, Memorials &c. The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from the Board of Managers Children's Home, asking that Certain trees on property belonging to the Home be remitted. Read. Alderman Schneider moved that it be referred to the Committee on claims & accounts, which motion was lost by the following vote: Yeas Alderman Schneider & Shelley 2 Nays Aldermen Brooken, Haynes, Irvine, Jordan, Maerker, Moore, Nitschke, Read, Summet, Smith, Weit 11. On motion the petition was laid over to come up with an Ordinance on the subject under the head of New Business.

The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the Assessor & Collector, the Clerk, the Physician & Sexton for the month of Sept 1904, that of the Marshal for the month of August & Sept 1904, that of the Water & Light Commission for the quarter ending March 31st/04, which were presented to their appropriate Committees without reading.

Alderman Shelley for the Street Committee to whom was referred a communication from the City Engineer asking for an appropriation for the purpose of repairing bridge over Little Shoal Creek on West Sixth Street, and also a report requesting the City Engineer to prepare plans & specifications for the work and an estimate of the cost of same. Therefore be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the City Engineer be and is hereby instructed to place all of said iron bridges on Third Street Crossing, where most needed, and as several of said bridges were broken when removed from the avenue Crossings and must be repaired before they can be used, the City Engineer is instructed to ascertain and report to the Council the cost of repairing such broken bridges in repair.
