Add Shy, mate, Fruith & Reid 8. Absent Aldermen Hume, Macken, Cuadday & Miller 6. Schneider & Shelley, On motion the Minutes were approved as recorded by the Clerk, without reading. Reports City Officers The Mayor laid before the Council the report of the City Treasurer for the Month of Feby, 1905, and that of the Marshal for Jany & Feby 1905, which were on motion referred to the appropriate Committees without reading. Reports of Standing Committees To L.V. & L. Light Alderman Miller for the Water & Light Committee to Commission whom was referred An Ordinance appropriating the sum of 1275.$00 for the purpose of building a Vault for the Water & Light Commission, presented a report recommending that the Ordinance do not pass. On motion the report of the Committee was adopted Alderman Holmes for the Finance Committee presented the following reports which was read and adopted. Austin, Texas March 16.1905 Finance on Hon R. Gentlemen: Your Committee on Finance, beg Credit & Debit leave to report that we have carefully examined the books and accounts of Fred Sherzing, City Assessor & Collector, for the years 1902 & 1903, to which his Cash Book, Bonds and receipts from the Treasurer of the City and the Treasurer of the School Board to cover all amounts collected by him, also the amounts collected by him for all moneys, and all other Collections properly entered on his books and duly accounted for and receipted for by the Treasurer up to and including Feby 28th 1905. The recommend with the following Credits by allowed Fred Sherzing City Assessor & Collector, for uncollected Taxes, receipts for which are on file in his office and still unpaid as per list hereto Attached for the years 1902 & 1903. We further recommend that the City Clerk be directed to credit the City Assessor & Collector for taxes of 1902, as per supplementary roll, Exhibit "P", the sum of $5152.19 and for taxes of 1903, as per supplementary roll, Exhibit "Q" the sum of $5867.98, and that he made to the City Assessor & Collector as per list attached marked Exhibit "S" and that said credits be entered on his books as of date January 1st, 1905. The report of the Committee was adopted. Five Commissions - The Mayor laid before the Council a communication on West Austin - from the Five Commissioners recommending that Fire Co. - the West Austin Fire Company, be admitted into - the Fire Dept of the City of Austin. - On motion the communication was not laid - over to come up with a resolution on the subject - under the head of new business. Approp. of $1114.03 - By Alderman Haynes an ordinance appropriating - the sum of $1114.03 for the purpose of paying approved - accounts. On motion Alderman Schneider was excused Alderman Shumaté moved that all nominees for Alderman at the election to be held April 3rd next be invited to seats in the Council Chamber, which motion prevailed. The paving Committee presented the following report which was read and adopted Austin, Texas, March 20, 1905, To the Hon R.B. White, Mayor, and the City Council of the City of Austin.
Paving Committee We, your street paving Committee, heretofore appointed Kappel. Est. under the authority of the City Council by the Mayor, beg leave to report that under an ordinance passed on the 10th day of March, 1905 and approved 11th day of March, 1905, to, on the 14th day of March, 1905, issued to Nelson Davis, Chas Wolf and R.P. Bull, executors of the estate of Jacob Kappel, dec'd. to meet with said paving Committee on the 20th day of March, 1905, notifying them, as executors of the estate of said Jacob Kappel, dec'd. to appear before said Committee on this date to offer any objections they may have as to why the bid and contract of Brown & Dabney should not be accepted as to the work of paving Congress Avenue and, especially, in front of lot No. 6 in Block No. 70, and to pay to said Committee as to the proportionate share of costs to be borne by the said estate of Jacob Kappel for such paving of Congress Avenue; and at said meeting no valid objection was offered as to why said contract should not be adopted and it appeared to the Committee that the reasonable amount and proportionate share of costs to be paid by the said Jacob Kappel estate for such paving is four hundred and thirty ($430.00) dollars. We, therefore, recommend that unless the executors of said estate ratify and adopt this action in ascertaining such proportionate share to be paid as aforesaid, within ten days from this date, that the City Attorney be instructed to institute the necessary proceedings in accordance with the ordinance, above referred to.
