Petitions & Acts Mrs. W. A. Haas. Dones. Alderman Crocken- Petition of Mrs. W. A. Haas, asking the Council to refund to her amount paid for constructing a stone wall on her premises Read and on motion referred to the Committee on Claims & accounts. Alderman Wacker entered the Council Chamber. Reports City Officers Reports of City Officers The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the Treasurer, the Physician, the Marshal & the Sexton for the month of June 1905, which were on motion referred to their appropriate Committees without reading. Reports Standing Committees Reports of Standing Committees Alderman Von Rosenberg for the Fire Committee presented a report stating that they had received and tested the Fire Hose purchased & recd. fire hose recently purchased and had approved the bill for same. The report was adopted. Alderman Cunea for the Ordinance Committee to whom Ordinance on Labor Ordinance was referred the Labor ordinance, presented a report recommending the passage of said ordinance. On motion the report of the Committee was adopted. C & A Pet. W.M. Jarret. Pound fees. Alderman Petri for the Claims & accounts Committee to whom was referred the petition of W.M. Jarret to refund Pound fees, also the bill of McPeed for expenses in the matter of bid and contract for Storm Sewer, presented McPeed Storm Sewer. reports, recommending that both claims be not allowed. Unfinished business Redemption taxes The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance allowing persons whose property has been sold for taxes and purchased by the City thirty days additional time to redeem the same. 388 Labor ordinance The Ulan said before the Council an ordinance defining what shall constitute a legal work day or public works for the City of Austin als This ordinance was read the second time Alderman VonRosenberg offered the following amendment To provide all deliveries of Ice, Meats, Vegetables, Groceries, dry goods, Laundry and Beer between the hours of 5 Pm. and 8 Am., also to prohibit City Hacks, Express or transfer wagon, Street car and Scavenger wagons from traversing the streets and alleys of the City of Austin between said Hours Said amendment is not to include the movement of the City Scavenger wagons on Cart. Alderman Crooker moved to refer the amendment to the Police Committee, which Motion was lost by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen. Resolution opposing the erection of a Stand Pipe by the W & L Commo.
Whereas, the water, Light & Power Commission of the City of Austin are advertising for bids for the Construction of a stand pipe or reservoir and are threatening to spend the money of the Citizens of Austin for such purchase: And Whereas, the Charter of the City of Austin, as Constructed by the Supreme Court of the State of Texas, in the Case of the City of Austin vs. McCall, 95 Texas, 573-574, gives to the City Council of the City of Austin the exclusive right to Construct such reservoir, on reservoirs and under the Charter and under said decision, the Water, Light & Power Commission has no authority to Construct such reservoir. Therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the City Attorney be and he is hereby instructed to institute a suit to enjoin the said Austin, Water Light & Power Commission and its Superintendent from Constructing any reservoir on reservoirs, as they are threatening to do.
