Alderman Haynes for the Finance Committee presented the following report which was read and adopted Hon W. Shelley, Mayor, and Board of Aldermen of the City of Austin
Finance Coupons paid Gentlemen: Your Committee on Finance beg leave to report that we have carefully checked and counted the coupons herewith submitted, representing the payments by the City Treasurer of interest due July 1905, and January 1906, on the Funding bonds of the City and have stamped "Each Coupon paid" on the register of said bonds kept by the City Clerk and recommend that the coupons be destroyed H. B. Haynes E. Von Rosenberg
School Tax, to increase On motion Judge Fulmore on behalf of the Board of School Trustees of the City of Austin was permitted to present a petition asking the Council to submit a proposition to levy a Tax of 8 2/3 ¢ on the $100. Valuation for school purposes. After reading the petition, Judge Fulmore addressed the Council on the proposition. On motion the petition was referred to the Finance Committee.
Building permit Alderman Von Rosenberg - petition of Hugo Claus for permission to erect coal and wood shed within the Fire limits. On motion the petition was granted. Alderman Von Rosenberg for the Fire Committee presented a report stating that they had advertised for and received bids for the erection of building for West Austin West Austin Fire Company and recommending the acceptance Fire Hall of the bid of James Belger for $3800. On motion, the report of the Committee was adopted, and contract awarded to Mr Belger, and the Mayor authorized to enter into contract with him in accordance with the report.
Marshals report Alderman Porcell for the Police Committee to whom was referred the reports of the City Marshal for the month of Feby 1906, presented a report stating that they had been examined and found correct On motion the report was adopted. Alderman Ochri for the Claims & Accounts Committee to whom was referred. The petition of H.L. Echilles & P. W. Namarra, for Correction of Assessment presented reports recommending that the petition be granted and the Assessor & Collector to make the Correction, and the credits for the amounts sworn. 500 Laws in Council Chamber to be removed Alderman Redd Chairman of the Market Committee called attention to the fact that the Laws in the Council Chamber would have to be removed to comply with the present requirements of the Water & Light Commission. On motion of Alderman Moore the Market Committee were instructed to allow the Water Alderman Haynes for the special Committee appointed to destroy Cancelled Coupons, presented the following report which was read and adopted Austin, Texas April 2nd 1906 To the Hon. Mayor & City Council Gentlemen, Interest Coupons destroyed The Coupon representing the payment of interest on the Refunding bonds of the City of Austin for July 1905, and July 1906, have to report that the Coupons have been burned in the presence of the Council H. G. Haynes E. W. Moore A. D. Cenas School Tax Alderman Moore moved to reconsider the vote by which the Council referred to the Finance Committee the petition of the School Board asking the Council to order an election authorizing the increase of the School Tax, which motion prevailed. Alderman Moore then moved that the City Attorney be directed to draw up an ordinance ordering said election which motion prevailed. 501 An motion Alderman Powell was excused from further attendance at this session of the Council Alderman Crooken offered the following resolution which was read and adopted. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the Ladies of the City Cemetery association of the City of Austin be and they are hereby given permission to enter upon and beautify the City Cemetery of the City of Austin and to improve the Same, and Cause the Same to be cleared of brush and weeds.
