Property encroachment dispute: Citizens petitioned to have cottages on 810th Street moved back onto proper property lines after they were found extending into the public street.

Tax assessment corrections approved: The council approved multiple petitions to correct property tax assessments from 1905, refunding overcharged fees to residents including pound fees for one petitioner.

Entertainment venue regulations proposed: Council introduced an ordinance to regulate shows, exhibitions, and amusement places in Austin, to be discussed at the next meeting.

Regular Meeting of the City Council Austin, Texas, August 06, 1906 Hon. W. D. Shelley, Mayor, presiding Roll Call Read - Present Aldermen Armstrong, Crooks, Amsley, Haynes Miller, Moore, Petri, Smith, Van Rosenburg, & Redd Absent Aldermen Macken, Shumate, & Dodd. On motion the minutes were approved as recorded by the Clerk, without reading. Petitions, memorials etc. By Alderman Moore - Petition of J. Breedday regardng taxes due by him, and money due to the City. Read and on motion referred to the Committee on claims and accounts. The Mayor laid before the Council a communication from F. O. Brown, having contract in regard to having which was read and on motion referred to the having Committee. By Alderman Petri - Petition of Q. L. Miller asking correction of assessment for the year 1905, Read and on motion referred to the Committee on claims & accounts. By Alderman Petri Petition of Citizens asking that Cottages erected on 810th Street be moved back on property lines, they being in the Street. Read and on motion referred to the Street Committee. Reports of City Officers. The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the Assessor & Collector, the Treasurer, the Clerk, Attorney, Physician for the month of July 1906, which were on motion referred to their appropriate Committees, without reading. Reports of Standing Committees. Alderman Haynes for the Finance Committee to whom was referred the reports of the City Treasurer for the months of May & June and of the Assessor & Collector & Clerk for the months of June, presented a report stating that same had been examined, rechecked and found correct. The report was adopted. Alderman Redd for the Claims & Accounts Alderman Petri for the Claims & accounts Committee to whom was referred the petition of J. M. Ingmanth to correct assessment, presented a report stating that upon examination they find that the Assessment & Survey to petitioners is correct and recommend that the petition be granted. And the Assessor & Collector be authorized to cancel the assessment and give credit for the amount. The report was adopted. --- Page break --- 558 Alderman Petri for the Claims & accounts Committee to whom was referred the petition of E. & Earnest to Correct assessment, presented a report stating that at the last meeting of the Council they had made a report on this Claim recommending that it be not allotted, but since that time they had made further investigation and find that the statements made by the petitioner were Correct and that the Correction as asked by petitioner should be made, and directing the assessor & Collector to Cancel said assessment and take Credit for same. The report was adopted Alderman Petri for the Claims & accounts Committee to whom was referred the petition of Earl Smith asking to have Certain pound fees refunded, presented a report recommending that the petition be granted. The report was adopted Communication City Engineer Bridge & E. 22nd Street Communication from City Engineer Leonard Regarding Bridge on E. 22nd Street, which was read and on motion referred to the Street Committee Communication from the City Engineer regarding the Calumet Bridge, which was read and ordered filed. New Business By Alderman Haynes an ordinance amending Article Ordinance amending Art. 69 Hacklights 69 of the Revised Civil & Criminal ordinances of the City regarding lights on Hacks, Cabs, Carriages, &c. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote: Alderman Armstrong, Croker, Haynes, Wild, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenburg, Wilhelm Nays, Alderman O'Shea Amt. Act 177 Sale of spoiled Meat By Alderman Wilhelm an ordinance to amend Article 177 of the Revised Civil & Criminal ordinances of the City regarding sale of spoiled meat &c. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion was referred to the Committee on Sanitation & Sewerage. Pay for maps By Alderman Smith an ordinance appropriating the sum of $13.75 for the purpose of paying balances due on City maps. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote: Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Croker, Cuneo, Haynes, Wilhelm, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenberg, Wilhelm. Nays None. Ordinance regulating By Alderman Moore an ordinance regulating Shows &c Shows, Exhibitions and places of amusement in the City of Austin. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion was referred to the ordinance Committee with instruction to report at the next regular meeting. --- Page break --- Extra labor + Teams. the sum of $400.00 for the purpose of employing extra labor labor + Teams. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following. Yeas Yeas Alderman Croken Ames Haynes Willson Moore Petri Powell Smith Von Rosenberg and wilhelm 10 Nays Alderman Armstrong + Redd 2 Resolution to strike Alderman wilhelm offered the following resolution, R P Preese from Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: Pay Roll That the name of R P Preese be and the same is ordered stricken from the Pay Roll of employees of the City. Alderman Croken moved that the resolution be referred to the Committee on Sanitary and Sewerage, which motion prevailed. By Alderman Haynes An ordinance appropriating approved accounts the sum of $291.44 for the purpose of paying approved St Dept accounts Street Dept, The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following Yeas Yeas Alderman Armstrong Croken Ames Haynes Wilson Moore Petri Powell Redd Smith Von Rosenberg & wilhelm 12 Nays None. By Alderman Haynes An ordinance appropriating approved accounts the sum of $1168.03 for the purpose of paying approved accounts. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion the rule was suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading by the following Yeas Yeas Alderman Armstrong Croken Ames Haynes Willson Moore Petri Powell Redd Smith Von Rosenberg & wilhelm 12 Nays None. The ordinance was read the second time. Alderman Redd moved to amend the ordinance by adding For R Flores refunded street over from the general fund $48.25 The amendment was adopted and the ordinance as amended was passed under suspension of the rules by the following Yeas Yeas Alderman Armstrong Croken Ames Haynes Willson Moore Petri Powell Redd Smith Von Rosenberg and wilhelm 12 Nays None.
