Austin's New City Hall Relocation Plans
• Temporary City Offices: The council approved renting 11 rooms in the old Smith Opera House on West 6th Street for $65/month to house city officials while the new City Hall is being built. Two rooms would be converted into a temporary city jail.
• Records Storage: The committee secured additional storage space above J. Shafer's business for $4/month to store records and documents that won't fit in the temporary guardhouse.
• Show Regulations: A new ordinance regulating shows and exhibitions throughout Austin was passed unanimously.
• Awning Standards: The council updated awning regulations, setting width requirements at 12 feet on Congress Avenue and 10 feet on 6th Street.

Called meeting of the City Council Austin, Texas, August 15, 1906 Hon H. O. Shelley mayor, presiding Roll Called Present Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Gunn & Haynes Moore, Pelvi, Redd, Smith, Vert, Rosenburg & Wicker. 10 Absent Aldermen Wacker, Miller, Powell & Thumate 4 The following Call of the Council was read Austin, Texas, Aug 14th 1906 Special Call on A Special session of the City Council is hereby Called temporary quarter P.M. to meet in the Council Chamber, Old City Hall, at 2:30 Aug 15th 1906. for the purpose of hearing and acting upon the report of the special City Hall Committee, on location of quarters of City officials, during the erection of the new City Hall, also to hear and consider the report of the ordinance Committee on the petition of the Fair Grounds Association, also a report from the street Committee on the ordinance amending the awning ordinance.

Powell, L. M. Crooker, E. V. Rosenburg, Joe Wacker, C. J. Armstrong, H. L. Haynes, Geo. W. Moore, Tom Smith, C. F. Wilhelm, Henry Pelvi, and by leaving a copy of same at the last known place of business of Aldermen J. W. Thumate he being out of the City W. J. Morris City Marshal Alderman Moore for the special City Hall Committee presented the following report, which was read and & adopted.
Austin, Texas, Aug 14th 1906 To the Hon W. O. Shelley Mayor, and Board of Aldermen City of Austin Gentlemen: Your Special Committee, on New City Smith building Hall to whom was referred the matter of securing quarters Bedrooms for City officials during the erection of the New City Hall beg leave to report that we have secured, subject to your approval, 11 rooms in the old Smith Opera House building, on West 6th Street, at a rental of $65.00 for which there will be ample room for the different officers, including the Corporation Court,

And that two of these rooms can, with a small expense, be fitted up and used for a City jail. We have had under consideration Several places and think this the most suitable place this is available Respectfully Submitted E. W. Moore E. Von Rosenberg Henry Petri Chas. J. Alderman Moore moved that the Mayor be instructed to enter into contract with the parties in accordance with this report, which motion prevailed. Alderman Moore Stated that the Committee had secured from J. Shafer, now over his place of business, in which to store records, papers etc, which could not be stored in the new guardhouse, the rental for which would be $4.00 per month. The action of the Committee in this respect was approved. Ordinance Alderman Ames for the ordinance Committee to whom regulating shows was referred an ordinance regulating Shows, exhibition etc. in the City of Austin, presented a report recommending the passage of the ordinance. The ordinance was read the Second time and passed under Suspension of the rules by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Crooker, Ames, Haynes Moore, Petri, Redd, Smith, Von Rosenberg, Wilhelm 10 Nays none. Awning Alderman Ames for the ordinance Committee to ordinance whom was referred an ordinance to amend the Amended and awning ordinance, presented a report recommending passed the passage of the ordinance with certain amendments, and on motion the report was adopted. The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance to amend the Awning ordinance. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion the rules was Suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Crooker, Ames, Haynes Moore, Petri, Redd, Smith, Von Rosenberg, Wilhelm 10 Nays none. The ordinance was read the Second time Alderman Armstrong moved to amend the ordinance by making the width of awning on Congress avenue 12 feet and on 6th Street 10 feet. The amendment was adopted, and the ordinance as Amended.

Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Currier, Haynes, [illegible] Petri, Reed, Smith, Van R, Seeburg & [illegible] Nays None. 10 The Mayor reported to the Council that he had, for reasons given, remitted a fine assessed in the Recorder's Court against one of the [illegible].
