Petitions &c Petitions, Memorials &c The Mayor laid before the Council a communication from Communication from Gratesin the Austin Ministerial association, asking the Council Sunday Law to reconsider its action in passing the Sunday Law. The communication was read and on motion of Alderman Moore was received and filed. Petition of Walken By Alderman Moore, Petition of Robt Waerken Lessee to erect bill of Opera House, for permission to place three Boards bill boards in front of Maerken Opera House, on the awning posts for advertising purposes, read and on motion referred to the Street Committee. J D Riley By Alderman Duncan, Petition of J D Riley for damages damages Read and on motion referred to the Water & Light Commission. Daimpmen to By Alderman Crooker, Petition of W W Dimpmen, asking Inspection the appointment of a meat inspector, Read and on motion laid over to Come up with an ordinance on the subject. Amelia Bruce By Alderman Petri, Petition of Amelia Bruce asking St work for street work. Read and on motion referred to the Street Committee. W W Kile & By Alderman Petri, Petition of W W Kile asking that 15th St. drainpipe be removed from Guadalupe to 15th Street. Read and on motion referred to the Street Committee. Mrs H W Wile By Alderman Petri, Petition of Mrs H W Wile asking for damages Damages to property for $100. Read and referred to the Street Comm.

574 H.A. Murray By Alderman Redd – Petition of H. A. Murray for building permit permission to erect a sheet Iron shed within the fire limits. Read and on motion permit granted. E.P. Haigler Alderman Macken entered the Council Chamber building permit By Alderman Redd Petition of E.P. Haigler for permission to erect a sheet Iron Building within the fire limits Read and on motion referred to the Board of Fire Commissioners Reports City Officers City Officers The reports of the City Officers Assessor and Collector, the Clerk, the Marshal; the Physician for the month of August, also the reports of the Water and Water Light Light Commission for the quarter ending June 30th 1906, which Commission were referred to their appropriate Committees except that of the Water Light Commission, which was read and referred to the Printing Committee with authority to have same printed in one of the newspapers. City Attorney The City Attorney to whom was referred the petition of J. & Silverman etc. to have certain houses moved off the streets made a verbal report and asked that the petition be re-referred to the Streets Committee, On motion it was so re-referred. Reports Stay Com Reports of Standing Committees Police Marshals Alderman Powell for the Police Committee to whom was reports referred the reports of the City Marshal for June & July 1906, made a report stating that they had been examined and found Correct. On motion the report was adopted. City Hall. Alderman Moore for the City Hall Committee made a Verbal report, stating what the Committee had done. Unfinished business. Unfinished business Skating ordinance The motion laid before the Council an Ordinance prohibiting the use of side walks by any person or persons for the purpose of Skating. The ordinance was read the second time and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its third reading, which motion was lost by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Crooks, Macken, Wieting & Redd 5 Nays Alderman Gumpel, Haynes, Moore, Petri, Powell & Smith 8
New Business. New Business Wm. Utley for Wm. Utley asked permission to address the Council Street work regarding streets near his premises, which permission was granted After remarks of Wm. Utley on motion the Street Committee Chairman were directed to for the street complained of Alderman Gumpel offered the following resolution which was read and adopted. Resolution Resolved that the Street Committee and the City Engineer be instructed to take up with the P. R. R. & B. C. R. R. on their duty appointed agents the matter of an immediate repairing of all culverts and bridges across the different streets.

of the City of Austin together with the raising, or lowering of their different tracks to meet the street grades as given by the City Engineer of the City of Austin and that all agreements regarding the same be fulfilled at once to the satisfaction of the Street Committee and City Engineer. Alderman Haynes offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted. City Hall Com'to That resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin! advertise for bids That the City Hall Committee be and they are hereby for excavation instructed to advertise for bids for doing the excavating and removing the dirt from the City Hall lot, and that they report such bids to the Council at its next meeting for their action thereon; that in the mean time the work be done under the present arrangement. Austin Electric Railway W.T. Young, President of the Austin Electric Street R.R. Co., paving Railway, was given permission to address the Council on the matter of paving ordered to be done by that Company. After the remarks by W.T. Young the matter was referred to the Paving Committee, with instructions to report at the next meeting. Amending Corporation By Alderman Smith an ordinance amending Court Ord. The ordinance was read the first time and a motion was made to suspend the rule and pass it on its second reading, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Crooke, Gause, Haynes, Macken, Mullins, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenberg and Wilhelm 13 Nays none The ordinance was read the second time, Alderman Gause moved to amend by inserting in its proper place the following: "provided said fee of one dollar shall not exceed in any one month more than fifty dollars" The amendment was adopted, and the ordinance as amended passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote: Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Crooke, Gause, Haynes, Macken, Mullins, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenberg and Wilhelm 13 Nays none Sale of lots City By Alderman Wilhelm an ordinance providing for the Cemetery Sale of lots in the City Cemetery belonging to the City of Austin The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following vote: Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Gause, Haynes, Macken, Mullins, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenberg and Wilhelm 13 Nays none

Old Town Clock to be Taken down and Stored away
Alderman McKeen presented the following resolution which was read and adopted Whereas, the old Town Clock has all these years Pealed forth its solemn tones over hill and dale to call those out by day, and Summer and the darkness of winter they be warned of the flight of time and yet faithfulness it has won a place in the hearts of all the inhabitants of Austin both young and old, and Whereas it should therefore be preserved for future generations in all its form that it may continue to mark time for right and truth Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the finance Committee be instructed to have the old Town Clock taken down and Stored away until new Hall is Completed and then the Clock shall be set in new Hall
Stream Whistle Ordinance
By Alderman Smith an ordinance providing the unnecessary sounding of Steam whistle within the Corporate limits of the City of Austin, and providing a penalty therefor The ordinance was read the first time and on motion was referred to the ordinance Committee
Extra St. Labor + Teams
By Alderman Smith an ordinance appropriating the sum of $400.00 for the purpose of paying for and employing extra street labor + teams The ordinance was read the first time and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its second reading which motion was lost by the following Vote Yeas Aldermen Crooker, Doynes, Mack, Mueller & Smith Nays Aldermen Armstrong, Moore, O’Hair, Powell, Rudd, Voss, Rosenberg, & Eckholm By Alderman Smith an ordinance appropriating the sum of $400. for the purpose of paying for gravel used on State Street, West 6th & Rio Grande Street The ordinance was read the first time and on motion of Alderman Moore was laid on the table until the next meeting, by the following Vote – Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Doynes, Eckholm, Moore, O’Hair, Powell, Rudd, Rosenberg, & Smith Nays Aldermen Mack, Mueller, & Voss Alderman Moore offered the following resolution which was read and adopted Whereas, it has been ascertained from a partial investigation of the prices that the franchise of the Gas Company in the City of Austin fixes a limit upon the charge to be paid for Gas to be charged by said Company. Whereas, it is believed that the Gas Company is now and has been for many months charging more than the maximum price fixed by the said franchise for fuel gas

577 Therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the City Attorney be and he is hereby allowed to take such steps as he may deem necessary for the proper enforcement of the franchise regulations of Said Gas Company, with reference to fuel gas; and be it further resolved that a special Committee, composed of Geo. Moore, H. L. Haynes and S. S. Smith, be appointed to Confer with said Attorney with reference to the facts and Course to be pursued.
Dairy ordinance By Alderman Haynes An ordinance requiring dairymen selling milk within the Corporate limits of the City of Austin to register their names and numbers of wagon and location of the dairys requiring dairymen to make on milk Cows
dog Catcher Salary etc. By Alderman Powell, An ordinance appropriating the Sum of $ 160.ºº for the purpose of paying the Salaries of dog Catcher and assistant for the months of Aug & Sept 1906. $2500.ºº for excavating etc new City Hall By Alderman Moore An ordinance appropriating the Sum of $ 2500.ºº for the purpose of paying expenses of moving five bell, for grading grounds for new City Hall and expenses of moving, repairing, furnishing, construction building, with rent on and other expenses. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Brooks, Cumes, Haynes, Wacker, Miller, Moore, Petri, Powell, Reed, Smith, Von Rosenberg & Wilhelm Nays none 13
$1400. for paving & c out By Alderman Moore An ordinance appropriating the Sum of $ 1400.ºº for the purpose of paying for paving of Red River 10th & 11th intersection. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following Vote Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Brooks, Haynes, Wacker, Miller, Moore, Petri, Powell, Smith, Von Rosenberg Nays Alderman Cumes, Reed & Von Rosenberg 10 3 Alderman Moore offered the following resolution which was read and adopted Whereas, The old Town Clock has all these years pealed with its faithful tones over hill and dale to lichtness and in spring and summer and the Lord and darkness of winter, it aye warned of the flight of time and its faithfulness.
