176 Ordinance Stagnant Water Alderman Cumeo for the Ordinance Committee to whom was referred an ordinance regulating foul & stagnant water, presents a report and submitting a substitute ordinance for the original and recommending the passage of the substitute. On motion the report was adopted.
Unfinished Business: Unfinished Business Alderman Miller called up the petition of the Ladies of the ConfedCemetery lot acq. erate Womens Home for burial space in the City Cemetery, together with Ladies Confederate Home the report of the Committee on Cemeteries, recommending that the report of the petition be granted. On motion the report of the Committee was adopted.
Alderman Moreland moved that the cemetery Committee be directed to select and set aside a lot in the City Cemetery for that purpose, which motion prevailed. Stagnant Water The Mayor laid before the Council the substitute ordinance offered by the Ordinance Committee prohibiting foul or stagnant water to remain on premises in the City of Austin, and providing a penalty for the violation thereof. The ordinance was read the second time, and passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crocker, Cumeo, Haynes, Meredith, Miller, Moreland, Petri, Redd, Scott, Smith, Suter & Wilhelm 13 Nays none.
New Business New Business: Tax Levy for 1908 The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance levying taxes for the year 1908, which was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crocker, Cumeo, Haynes, Meredith, Miller, Morel and, Petri, Redd, Scott, Smith, Suter & Wilhelm 13 Nays none.
Circus Ordinance By Alderman Wilhelm an ordinance providing for a deposit of money for the purpose repairing damages done to streets, bridges, culverts and property of the City of Austin by circuses and traveling shows using wagons heavier than those used in the ordinary transaction of business within the City of Austin. The ordinance was read the first time and on motion was referred to the Ordinance Committee and City Attorney, with instructions to report at the next meeting of the Council.
Street Car Ordinance By Alderman Moreland an ordinance repealing an ordinance entitled "An o rdinance providing for the duties of street car conductors at places where street car tracks intersect railroad crossings." The ordinance was read the first time. Alderman Suter moved to lay it on the table., which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Aldermen Crocker, Cumeo, Meredith, Petri, Scott, Suter & Wilhelm 7 Nays Aldermen Armstrong, Haynes, Miller, Moreland Redd & Smith 5 On motion Alderman Miller was excused from further attendance at this session of the Council.
