Petitions,Memorials,Etc: By Alderman Moore petition of F A Finn asking to have certain sums On motion the petition was granted . Engmeer to remove obstructions of Hyde Park By Alderman Meredith petition of Citizens of Hyde Park,asking that the City Engineer be directed to remove obstructions to streets in Hyde Park.On motion the petition was granted . Alderman Smith entered the Council chamber and answered to his name. Leave absence City Recorder. On motion of Alderman Creekerleave of absence for twelve days was granted to City Recorder Von Rosenberg. Fire Station Hyde Park. By Alderman Read petition of H C Eagar asking that a fire station be established in Hyde Park.The petition was read . Alderman Moore offered the following resolution which was read and adopted . Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,that should the North Austin Hose Company erect and construct a galvanized Iron Sub-Station 8 feet wide 12 feet long & 8feet high and purchase a Hose cart and necessary fitting for the purpose of carrying hose at a point in Hyde Park,the City will re-imburse said company in the new budget next year . Reports of City Officers: Reports City Officers The Mayor laid before the Council the reports of the Assessor and Collector ,the Clerk & the Sexton for the month of October 1908,which were on motion referred to their appropriate Committees,without reading Reports of Standing Committees : Communications By Alderman Read a communication from the Chief of the Austin Fire Department,making suggestions as to the needs of the Dept,which was read and on motion referred to the Fire Committee. Cora Rose petition Alderman Patri for the Claims & Accounts Committee to whom was referred the petition of Mrs Cora Rose asking to have certain sums fees refunded ,presented a report recommending that the petition be not granted.On motion the report was adopted. 7th Ward Fire Co admitted The Mayor laid before the Council a report from the Fire Commissioners on the application of the 7th Ward Fire Company for admission to the Fire Dept.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxAlderman Moore ,xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx offered the following resolution which was read and adopted . Salary Asst Engineer The ordinance was read the first time and on motion of Alderman Crocker was referred to the Finance Committee, with instructions to report at the next meeting of the Council. Alderman Cuneo offered the following resolution , viz: Resolved: That whereas the condition of West 9th street from Blanco Street work West side st to West Lynn Ave, and 12th st from Blanco East to Ruiz street, thence south on Ruiz street to West sixth street are in a deplorable condition, because of long neglect and their peculiar situations, being along the slopes and in the valley of the mountains upon which our beautiful City is located , such streets now presenting an appearance of Jagged cliffs, and whereas this particular portion, by records has shown an enormous increase in population and building improvementsthereby necessitating the placing of a new fire company in this district, and now on account of said condition, the said new fire company is powerless in many instances to protect lives, and citizens properly, because it is at the absolute risk of the drivers life who makes an attempt to save such properties from fire, and the destruction of the Citys valuable fire equipmants. therefore in Justice and duty to said citizens , and because of the cost of such improvements are very nominal, from the fact that the gravel necessary to cover an already solid rock foundation can be has from the abutting side walks on these streets, the only other cost being the distributing and covering of said streets. Therefore be it resolved that the City Engineer and the Street Committee, be instructed to forthwith transfersuch teams and men of the regular employeesas is necessary to do this work. Alderman Haynes moved that the resolution be referred to the Street Committee and the City Engineer, with power to act , which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Alderman Armstrong, Haynes , Meredith, Miller, Moore, Moreland, Petri,
