.Regular meeting of the City Council, Austin, Texas, Feby 18th 1909: Hon F M Maddox, Mayor presiding: Roll called: Present Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Cuneo, Haynes, Miller, Moore, Petri, Redd, Scott, Smith & Wilhelm 11 Absent Aldermen Meredith, Moreland & Sutor 3 Petitions ,Memorials, etc: Petitions, etc. Robt Sledge Pound fees The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from Robt Sledge asking to have certain puond fees refunded, which was read and on motion referred to the Committee on Claims & Accounts. AP of J A Martin & Hput in platform on East 4th St. By Alderman Moore Petition of A P Martin & J A Martin asking permission to put in a platform on East 4th street. Alderman Cuneo moved that the petition lie on the table until the next regular meeting, which motion was lost by thre following vote : Yeas Aldermen :Cuneo & Wilhelm 2 Nays Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Haynes, Miller, Moore, Petri, Redd, Scott & Smith 9 The petition was then granted by the following vote : Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Haynes, Miller, Moore, Petri, Redd, Scott, Smith & Wilhelm 10 Nays Alderman Cuneo 1 Judges & Clerks of Election approved The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance appointing Judges and Clerks of election for the next two years, and fixing their compensation. The ordinance was read the first time, and on motion the rule was suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading by the following vote : Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Cuneo, Haynes, Miller, Moore, Petri, Redd Scott, Smith & Wilhelm 11 Nays none. The ordinance was read the second time . Compensation of Judges of Election The blanks giving names of Judges and Clerks were then filled . On motion the compensation of Judges and Clerks was fixed at $ 2,00 per day of eight hours, or the fractional part of a day. The ordinance as amended was then passed under suspension of the rule by the following vote : Yeas Aldermen Armstrong, Crooker, Cuneo , Haynes, Miller, Moore, Petri, Redd, Scott, Smith & Wilhelm 11 Nays none . Ford at mouth of Shoal Creek Alderman Haynes moved that the Mayor be authorized and requested to confer with the Commissioners Court of Travis County in regard tom the ford across the Colorado River at the mouth of Shoal creek, which will have to be used by the public during the time of the removal of the Colorado bridge, and also that he confer with the Water & Light Commission as to placing an Arc light on each side of the river at such ford , which motion was adopted. Arc Lamps, etc. Ordinance paying expenses of Dr. Loving & Washington By Alderman Armstrong an ordinance appropriating the sum of $ 50,00 for the purpose of paying Dr Loving’s expenses to Washington, which was read and referred to the Finance Committee.
