454 • • Mayor Wooldridge offered the following res elution: • Whereas at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin, held on the 14th day of April, A D 1910, came on to be considered the returns of an election held on the 5th day of April, A D 1910, at which election the proposition as to whether or not the City Council should pass a certain ordinance to contract with the Dumont Holmes Steel Crete Company to build a dam across the Colorado River, was submitted to the qualified voters of the City of Austin, and it appearing that said election was in all respects lawfully held, and said returns duly and legally made, and that there were cast at said election 2239 votes, of which number 2157 votes were cast for said proposition, and 38 votes were cast against said proposition; It is therefore ordered and declared that said proposition was sus tained by more than a 2/3 majority of the qualified voters at said election, and that the City Council should pass said ordinance. The Mayor laid before the Council An ordinance granting the Dumont Holmes Steel Con-crete Company ,a private Corporation organized and existing under the laws of Dam Ordinance Illinois,a franchise to erect and maintain a dam sixty five (65) feet high ,above low water,across the Colorado River,at the location of the dam formerly erected across said River by the City of Austin,and the franchise or privilege to said Corporation, to overflow the lands by the backwater of the dam ,and providing for conveying and delivery to and the use by said corporation of th e materials and property owned and formerly used by said City in operating it a water power plant ,at the dam,and the use of poles ,wires and present equipment of same from the dam to the City's present steam plant ,and providing for the furnishing to the City by said corporation of a dam,its equipment of operating machinery,a reservoir,filter,all accessories,and the operation and maintenance of same as hereinafter set forth for the purpose of opera-ting the water,light and power plant of the City of Austin,and providing for semi- -annual installments for the payment of same. Dear Sir : I Respectfully ask permission to erect,in compliance withArticle 259 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Austin,two storage tanks for keeping for sale crude and manufactured fuel oil .Said tanks to be located and erected on the property owned by the M K & T Ry Co ;to be placed on the Southwest corner of the North half of lot 12,in block 32.North of railroad tracks.Same to be at least fifteen (15) feet away from the nearest building : each tank to be a fireproof magazine,having a capac-ity of six thousand ( 6,000) gallons each.Said Magazines to be placed in an excat- -vation,eleven feet by twenty one feet by five feet deep ,on a concrete foundation. Excavation and tanks to be enclosed with corrugated iron building.

April 19th 1910. 22½ of Petition for The Council was called to order by the Mayor,with all members present. of improvement The Mayor laid before the Council the petition of Citizensasking that West 22 1/2 street sidewalk be put in a passable condition. Judge Regan,Mr Siden Harris & Mr Hurt,being present were invited to address the Council for the petitioners,which they did. C.F.M. Burke et al The Mayor then laid before the Council the petition of Messrs Burke to extend Sidewalk Cellett & Creighton ,asking permission to extend sidewalk,etc,which was read and taken under advisement. The Mayor laid before the Council a an invitation from the Austin Fire Invitation of Fire Dept Dept ,asking the Council to attend their San Jacinto celebration on the San Jacinto Celebration 21st of April,1910.which was read and accepted. The Council recessed subject to call of the Mayor. April 20th 1910 3.30 P M Pet The Council was called to order by the Mayor,with all members present. Robt Alexander The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from Robt Alexander,asking for Damages damages on account of his Son being burned ,with powder,that was taken ,in a bottle found in trash pile ,which trash he claimed had been dumped on a lot near his place by the City's carts. After discussion of the matter,the petition was granted and the City Attorney was directed to prepare the necessary papers protecting the City from further liability in the case. Councilman Gracy offered the following resolution: Tax Rolls for Whereas,the tax rolls of the City of Austin for the year 1909 having 1909. Approved been completed by the Assessor and Collector of taxes of the City of Austin during the sickness of D B Gracy,Superintendent of Receipts, D,isbursements and Accounts ,and since his recovery,he having examined the same ,and new reports to the City Council of the City of Austin , that said rolls show a valuation of taxable real estatein the said City of Austin of the sum of $ 13,536,107.00,and a valuation of personal property in the City of Austin of $ 4,062,198.00,making a total of $ 17,599,107.00,and that the advalorum tax on same for the year 1909 is $ 167,191.71.at rate of 95cts on the $ 100 valuation ,and that the School tax on same for the year 1909 is $ 58,663.85,at rate of 33 1/3 cts on the the $ 100 valuation,and that the Interest and Sinking fund tax on same for the year 1909,is $ 66,876.62,at the rate of 38 cts on the $ 100 valuation ,making a total tax of $ 292,732.18.
