Austin Stable Permit & Street Improvements Approved

Stable Construction Approved – Frank Smith received permission to build a stable within the city fire limits after the Fire Commissioners and council endorsed his petition.

Budget Reallocation for Sanitary Department – The council transferred $1,000 within the sanitary department budget to cover miscellaneous expenses, including adjustments to inspector and sweeper salaries.

Street Grading Established – New elevation grades were set for 7th Street between Congress Avenue and a nearby alley to improve street drainage and reduce sidewalk steps at the corner intersection.

Railroad Track Project Delayed – A proposal allowing multiple companies to construct and maintain railroad tracks across Houston streets was introduced but postponed for further consideration.

501 (Regular Meeting of the City Council Austin, Texas, June 30, 1910 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll Called: Present Mayor Woodbridge, Councilman Grazy & Kent 3 Absent excused Councilman Bartholomew & Powell 2The minutes of the last regular & Called Meetings were read and approved. Petitions, etc. The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from Frank Petition Frank Smith Smith, asking permission to erect a stable, within the for building permit fire limits, which was approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners & Councilman Kent. The petition was granted by the following Vote: Yeas Mayor Woodbridge, Councilman Gray & Kent 3 Absent excused Councilman Bartholomew & Powell 2 The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from J.B. Heaspath to Heaspath, asking to have found him refused. refund license. which petition the City Marshal recommended by not granted, refused Councilman Kent moved that the petition be not granted, which Motion was adopted by the following Vote: Yeas Mayor Woodbridge, Councilman Gray & Kent 3 Nays none. The Mayor laid before the Council a resolution appropriating $500. appropriation the sum of $500.ºº for the purpose locating lines of streets, for locating Street lines, Blocks & alleys in the City of Austin. etc The resolution was read the third time and passed by the following Vote! Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin! --- Page break --- 502 Resolution to grant J.B. Riddle and he is hereby, authorized and J.B. Riddle Granted the right to erect and to maintain in Warr. case to Front of lot 10, Blk 106, fronting on the East Avenue East Avenue in the City of Houston, Texas to-wit: A platform over the North 12 feet and 6 inches from the property line, fronting on said Street, and 8 feet East from the extension of the east property line of East Avenue in Block 106. Said Scale to be 22 feet by 8 feet in dimension, provided that Said Riddle shall place Said Street where Said Scale is erected in good and passable condition upon the erection thereof, and shall Keep and maintain Said Street in Such condition; Provided further, that Said Scale shall be for public and private use, provided further, that the right herein granted may be rescinded at any time by the City Council, and Said Riddle may be required to remove Said Scale from Said Street at his own Cost; Provided further, that Said Riddle shall at all times Keep the City harmless from any and all damages to persons or property on account of the erection and maintenance of Said Scale. Weaver, Joe Ravaselli, George Harwood, Guslin East Freight Company, Houston Testing Company, H.A. Lesson, San Antonio Merging Association, and Southern Bedding Manufacturing Company; the right to construct, maintain, and operate a railroad track upon and across certain Streets in the City of Houston, subject to certain conditions and penalties. The ordinance was read the first time and laid over. Mayor Woodardge offered the following Resolution: Grade Notice 7th Street That the City Council of the City of Houston 7th & Congress Avenue Grades be and are hereby established as on the North Side of 7th Street from Congress Avenue to Alley west of same. Grades being taken on the said 7th Street at Northeast Corner of 7th and Congress Ave. Established elevation 100'. At Alley 103.6 35' East of Alley 102.8 55' " " 100.5 From thence to Congress Avenue Grade to be uniform. Grade at Congress Avenue to be practically the same as at present, except that it may be slightly lowered if necessary in order to reduce height of steps on sidewalk at the Corner.
