Austin Electric Railway Track Removal Approved

Streetcar track removal authorized: The Austin Electric Railway Company received permission to remove its tracks, poles, wires, and other equipment from a section of 17th Street between Lavaca and Brazos streets.

Railroad spur track petition debated: A proposal from Voss & Kesak to install a railroad spur track on East 4th Street was presented to the council, with both supporters and opponents speaking, though no decision was made that day.

Conditions attached to approval: The railway company's removal permit was granted subject to existing city ordinances governing street railway operations in Austin.

535 August 24th 1910. .The Council was called to order by the Mayor,with all members present except Councilman Gracy. Mayor Woolridge offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: Section 1 .That the Austin Electric Railway Company be and it is hereby author-ized to remove its tracks,crossties,poles,wires and other equipment on 17th street in the City of Austin,from a point about midway of the intersection of Lavaca street with 17th street,eastwardly to the middle of the intersection of Brazos street with 17th street in this City. Section 2 . The permit here granted is to be held subject to the terms and condi-tions of the ordinances heretofore enacted by the City Councils of the City of Austin,granting to the Austin Rapid transit Company ,its successors and assigns the right to construct,equip and operate street railways in the City of Austin,Texas and subject to the conditions of the ordinances heretofore granryed to the Austin Electric railway Company. The resolution was [illegible] read the first time & the rule [illegible] by the following vote: Absent excused Councilman Gracy 1 The resolution was read the second time and laid over. The Mayor laid before the Council the petition of Voss & Kesak for permission to put in a spur R R track on east 4th street,which was read and parties for and against the granting of the petition addressed the Council,but no action taken.
