742 Regular meeting of the CityCouncil: Austin, Texas, June 08, 1911. The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Lockridge & Powell 5 Absent none. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted. The regular order of business was sus pended and a Committee of Citizens appeared before the Council and discussed improvements at the City Cemetery, but no action taken. The Council then recessed until 2 P M this day. Thursday June 8th 1911.3 P M The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present. The Mayor laid before the Council the following reports of City Officers for the month of May 1911: viz, The Sexton, The Plumbing Inspector, the Health Officer & Assistant, the Matron of the Hospital, The City Marshall, which were read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed subject to call of the Mayor. Saturday June 10th 1911. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present. Bids for addition to The Councilman Hart submitted bids for addition to the West Austin Fire Hall, West Austin Fire as follows, viz: Hall C W Moore for building, except Plumbing & Wiring $ 5,665.00 R A Flume do do do 5,495.00 J D Riley do do do 5,050.00 A A Mundt do do do 5.400.00 J L Martin for Plumbing $ 159.00 Wiring $ 64.00 Bacon & Hancock do . 137.00 do 58.00 The matter of awarding bids was postponed until a later date. Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: W A Gordon appointed Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : agent City to take That W A Gordon, Esq, is hereby appointed the agent of the City of Austin acknowledgements to take Notarial acknowledgements , and obtain the written consent pairing Contracts where practicable so to do, of persons against whose property assessments for street paving have been or shall be levied under recent orders of the City Council, ordering street paving upon certain streets or parts of streets in this City. The service contemplated by this resolution is to be rendered without cost to the City of Austin. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Lockridge & Powell 5 Nays none. Councilman Hart offered the following resolution : S A Moore Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that Patrolman Leave of absence S A Moore be and he is hereby granted 7 days peave of absence from Jun 9th 1911. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Lockridge & Powell 5 Nays none. --- Page break --- 713 .Councilman Lockridge offered the following Resolution : Mrs Kate S Johnson of Hattersberg Miss, having made a slight mistake in the Penalty remitted amount of her taxes for the year 1910, Mr Fred Sterzing returned to her the Mrs Kate S. Johnson check advising the correct amount and requesting another check. The second check was mailed Collector Sterzing June 1st for the correct amount, but did not reach the Collector until after the date of the five per cent penalty against taxpayers who fail to pay their taxes on or before June the first of each year. In my judgement, Mrs Johnson tried to meet her tax obliga-tion before June 1st 1911, therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the penalty of five per cent imposed against tax payers who fail to pay their taxes on or before June the 1st of each year, be and the same in this instance is hereby remitted. Be it further resolved : That a copy of this resolution be furnished the City Assessor & Collector. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Lockridge & Powell 5 Nays none. The Council then recessed subject to call of the Mayor. Monday June 12th 1911. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present. Bids for Councilman Hart, presented bids for Fire Auto, as follows: Fire Auto Seagraves Co $ 3,900.00 & $ 4,000.00 Webb Motor Co 4,200.00 Capital City Auto Co 3,400.00 & 3,800.00 A M La France Co 5.250.00 Rambler Hose Co Per Goeth $4,500.00 3,600.00 3,250.00 The Council took the bids under advisement, result to be announced later. The Council then recessed subject to order of the Mayor.
