New Fire Crew, Fines Waived, Street Needs

    Officially recognized "Rescue Company No 9," a new volunteer fire company, integrating it into the city's Fire Department under the condition they wouldn't seek city financial aid until 1914.
  • Fines Remitted:

    Approved the remission of fines for three individuals: Corry Moreland, Arthur Perry, and WL Barron.
  • Street Repair Requests:

    Received a petition from citizens asking for street work to be done on East 14th Street.

28 Regular meeting of the City Council : Austin,Texas, Sept 28th 1911. The Council was calledto order by the Mayor : Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldridge, Co ncilmen Hart,Lockridge & Powell 4 Absent excxised Councilman Bartholomew 1. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and approved. Petitions,etc. Fines remitted Councilman Hart presented petition of Corry Moreland, Arthur Perry and WL Bar -ron , asking that fines assessed against them in the Recorders Court be remitted. Councilman Hart moved that the costs in each of the cases be remitted, which motion prevailed by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge ,Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1. Citizens street work The Mayor laid before the Council a petitionfromCitizens asking to have certain street work done on East 14th street, between Navasota and Comal streets,which was read and referred to Councilman Powell. New Business. Councilman Hart offered the following resolution: Whereas, it appearing to theCity Council that by virtue of the authority granted under Article 208 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Austin, relating to Rescue Hose Co admitted the organization of the FireDept ,an organization has beenperfected in the North Eastern portion of the City ,known as " Rescue Company No 9",and has petitioned the Board of Fire Commissioners and the City Council to be admitted as one of the fire companies of the City of Austin ,under conditions set out in its petition ,and it further appearing to the Council that said organization has complied withthe ordinances governing the admission of new fire companies and that said petition hasbeen favorable acted upon by the Board of Fire Com-missioners as shown by the certificate of its Recorder attached to said peti- -tion : and ,it further appearing to the Council thatsaid organization is not asking or seeking any financial aid from the City ,but simply asking to be recognized as a part of the Fire Dept of the City of Austin : therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That said " Rescue Hose Co No 9" ,be and the same is here admitted as one of the fire companies of the City of Austin ,subject to all the rules and regula-tions ,duties and privileges,governing the fire Dept ofthe City of Austin, but upon the condition that said company will not seek any financial aidfromthe City of Austin before the 1st day of January 1914. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Taxes Austin Wholesale Grocery Co. red'n of tax Yeas Mayor Wooldridge ,Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Councilman Lockridge offered the following resolution : Whereas, The rendition of property for City taxes for the year 1910, made by the agent of The Austin Wholesale Grocery Company,was valued by said agent at $ 10,025.00 ,and Whereas, The Austin Wholesale Grocery Co ,now out of businesshas made a sworn statementitemized, showing that the value of the property on hand and controlled by them at that time, January 1.1910,was $ 6.104.89, and for which the company tenders a checkfor the taxes due on that amount,therefore, Be it resolved by the Council ,that in view of the sworn statement hereto --- Page break --- 30: Any matters of appeal that may come before you we shall appreciate your calling on us to be present when such appeals if any are to be heard. Very respectfully, F M Covert, President A W Townsend, Secretary, J H Webb. The Council then recessed subject to call of the Mayor. Austin October 2nd 1911. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present except Councilman Bartholomew & Hart. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Whereas, on the 20th day of January, 1911, the City of Austin entered into controay with Ray McDonald to build a reinforced concrete filtering trench in this City, near the City's present pumping plant, for the sum of eighty five hundred Filtering Trench filtering trench ($ 8,500.00) dollars ;and, work begun Whereas said contract has been completed by said Ray McDonald in compliance accepted with the plans and specifications for the same ;and, Whereas, M C Welborn, Engineer in charge of said work this day reports to the City Council that said reinforced concrete filtering trench has been completed accor-ding to the contract, plans and specifications, and recommends the acceptance of the same ; Now therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That said reinforced concrete filtering trench be and the same is hereby accepted by this City as built in compliance with the plans and specifications provided therefor, and further that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to approve and pay over to said Ray McDonald the sum of thirteen hundred and five ($ 1,305.70 ) dollars and seventy cents, same being balace due in full on-ing by the City on said contract.
