    "Rescue Company No. 9" was officially recognized as part of Austin's Fire Department, operating without city financial aid until 1914.
  • Columbus Day Celebration Funded:

    The city appropriated $150 from the general contingent fund to support a civic celebration for Columbus Day on October 12th.
  • Library Funds Rerouted for Streets:

    $150 initially designated for a library site was reallocated to the street department to help pay for the extension of Sixth Street in Hyde Park.
  • Property Tax Correction:

    Approved a correction to the 1910 property tax valuation for the Austin Wholesale Grocery Company based on a sworn statement of their actual assets.

Regular meeting of the City council: Austin, Texas Sept. 28th 1911 The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent excused Councilman Bartholomew The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and approved. Petitions, etc. Councilman hart presented petition of Corry Moreland, Arthur Perry and W.L. Barron, asking that fines assessed against them in the Recorders Court be remitted. Councilman Hart moved that the costs in each of the cases be remitted, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from Citizens asking to have certain street work done on East 14th Street, between Navasota and Comal Streets, which was read and referred to Councilman Powell. New Business Councilman hart offered the following resolution: Whereas, it appearing to the city Council that by virtue of the authority general under Article 208 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Austin, relating to the organization of the Fire Department, an organization has been perfected in the North Eastern portion of the city, known as “Rescue Company No. 9”, and has petitioned the board of Fire Commissioners and the City Council to be admitted as one of the fire companies of the City of Austin, under conditions set out in it a petition, and further appearing to the Council that said organization has complied with the ordinances governing the admission of new Fire companies and that said petition has been favorable acted upon by the Board of Fire Commissioners as shown by the certificate of its Recorder attached to said petition; and, it further appearing to the Council that said organization is not asking or seeking any financial aid from the City, but simply asking to be recognized as a part of the Fire Dept. of the City of Austin: therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: --- Page break --- That said “Rescue Hose Co. No. 9”, be and the same is here admitted as one of the fire companies of the City of Austin, subject to all the rules and regulations, duties and privileges, governing the fire Dept. of the City of Austin, but upon the condition that said company will not seek any financial aid from the City of Austin before the 1st day of January 1914. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew Councilman Lockridge offered the following resolution: Whereas, the rendition of property for City taxes for the year 1910, made by the agent of the Austin Wholesale Grocery company, was valued by said agent at $10,025.00, and Whereas the Austin Wholesale Grocery Co., now out of business has made a sworn statement itemized, showing that the value of the property on hand and controlled by them at that time, January 1,1910 was $6,104.89, and for which the company tenders a check for the taxes due on that amount, therefore, Be it resolved by the Council that in view of the sworn statement hereto, attached, that the rendition made on January 1, 1910 be and the same is hereby corrected and made $6,104.99. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew By Councilman Powell an ordinance appropriating the sum of $760.14, for the purpose of paying Knox T. Johnson from sidewalks and Curbing for E.M. Scarbrough, Est. Monroe Miller, Est. of Jos Nalle & F. Finet. The ordinance was read the first time and the rule suspended I placed on its second reading by the following vote. Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew Read the second time and laid over Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin; --- Page break --- Section 1: That the sum of one Hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars out of the general contingent fund of the City of Austin for the current year, be and the same is hereby contributed, set apart and appropriated in aid of the civic celebration to be held in this City on October 12th 1911, in commemoration of Columbus Day. Section 2. That a warrant for one hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars out of the general contingent fund, payable to W.R. Hamby, Chairman of the general Committee having in charge said celebration, be and the same is hereby ordered and directed to be drawn. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: (1) That the one hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars heretofore transferred out of the appropriation for a library site for the year 1911, in part payment of the extension of Sixth Street in Hyde Park of this City, be transferred from said library appropriation to the miscellaneous expense appropriation of the street Dept. for the current year. (2) That the one Hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars out of the street fund, accruing from the transfer to that fund of $150.00 from the library site appropriation be and the same is hereby appropriated and set apart in part payment of the purchase of an extension of Sixth Street in Hyde Park from the alley west of Duval Street to Duval Street in this City. (3) That all resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Hart, Lockridge & Powell Absent Councilman Bartholomew The Mayor laid before the Council the following report: The Honorable Mayor and City Council, City of Austin, Texas Gentlemen: --- Page break --- The Undersigned, comprising the Board of Equalization for the City of Austin for the year 1911, beg leave to report that we have completed our work in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter and the oath of Office as administered to us, having equalized the values of properties, real and personal, as is shown by the records in the office of the City assessor and Collector, and have adjourned this 22nd day of September, 1911.
