122 Regular meeting of the City Council of Austin, Texas, May 21st, 1918 The Council was Called to order by The Mayor, H. Wooldridge; Present – Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, R. C. Kent, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent None The minutes of the last regular and Called meetings were read and adopted. Councilman R. C. Kent offered the following Resolution: Whereas, it appears to this Council that certain Calves belonging to Mrs. S. D. Bryant and Mrs. L. Brass. were impounded and remained for several days, that the pound fees amounted to $4.50 and $1.50, that the owners of said Calves live outside the City Limits, that these Calves escaped from pasture by accident as they do not allow their stock to run at large; therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin; That the pound fees amounting to $4.50 be and the same are hereby remitted, and said sum be paid by the Clerk of the City of Austin to Mr. L. Brass. And it is further resolved that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and directed to refund the sum of $1.50 to Mrs. S. D. Bryant. This Resolution was adopted by the following Vote: Yeas – Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, R. C. Kent, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays – None Approved, A.P. Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor Called before the Council the following Resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin; That the City Treasurer and the City Clerk be and they are hereby instructed to transfer the sum of P42.70 dollars from the General fund to the Street & Sewer fund for work on the Driskill Hotel, East Avenue, 12th Street, and Lavaca Street, and for the payment of instrument paid on account for repairs of sidewalks; and afterwards refunded and placed by the Assessor Collector to the Credit of the General fund. The Resolution was adopted by the following Vote: Yeas – Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, R. C. Kent, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays – None Approved, A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor The Council then recessed. --- Page break --- 423 Austin, Texas, Januarry 4th 1913 The Council was Called to order by the Mayor with all members present, The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, J. D. Ford has paid to the City the sum of $79.60 for Certain taxes assessed against lots 5 & 6, outlots 23. in Due "A" in the City of Austin for the year 1910, and, Whereas, it has been made to appear before the Council by the affidavit of J. D. Ford appended hereto, and by Certain other evidence, that the taxes for said year against said premises were erroneously assessed under the law; therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the sum of $79.60, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent fund for the purpose of refunding said J. D. Ford in said amount, and the City Clerk and Assessor is instructed to issue a warrant for said amount, payable to the order of J. D. Ford, and the City Assessor & Collector & Clerk is hereby instructed to Correct his Assessment and Said Premises for said year in accordance with the terms of this Resolution. J. D. Councilman Haynes submitted the following Communication: Austin, Texas, Jany 6th 1913 To the Hon Mayor & City Council of the City of Austin, Gentlemen, I hereby nominate Thos. L. Connell and Lt. Kreisle as Deputy City Assessors for the year 1913 A L Haynes Mayor Pro-tem The nominations were Confirmed by the following Vote: Yeas Mayor Overcavage, Councilmen Bartholomew, Kurt, Voith & Nays None Councilman Haynes 1 The Council then recessed. --- Page break --- 124 Tuesday Jany 7th 1913 The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the Assessor and Collector is hereby authorized to correct Mary R. Naples the assessment against Mary R. Naples on the improvements on Assessment lot 6, Div "B", of 50 x 150 ft. out of lot 6, Div "B", of West Avenue, Block 2, correctal as said assessment was erroneously made from a copy from the year 1911. Said improvements were placed on the rolls at a value of $1200.00. when it should have been $50.00, as no additional improvements were on said property on January 1st 1912. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved. A.P. Wooldridge, Mayor. Councilman Hart offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: J.D. Tomlinson That the pounding of 9 head of Cattle be cancelled and pound fee. for the impounding of 9 head of Cattle belonging to J.D. Tomlinson from the municipal Pound, Tomlinson living outside of the City limits who paid $13.50. for said stock having come into the City limits by accident and having done no damage, and for other reasons set forth in the attached Communication; and said money shall be put in the hands of the Clerk of the Corporation Court, and he is authorized and directed to refund same. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none Approved. A.P. Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following Resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council, of the City of Austin: appropriation That the sum of two thousand ($2000.) dollars be and is Seth K. Hart hereby appropriated out of the General Fund of the City of Austin, in part payment of the purchase of certain property bought by the City of Austin from Mrs. Seth K. Hart and others for streets and Sidewalks. This appropriation will be superseded by a more detailed justification of the property bought in the Budget for this City for the year 1913. The resolution was read the first time --- Page break --- 425 The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin. That the sum of twenty-five hundred ($2500.ºº) dollars be and is hereby appropriated out of the General Street Improvement Fund of the City of Austin, in part payment of the purchase of certain property bought by the City of Austin from Walsh, Cox, & Co., for shells and shacks. This appropriation will be repealed, with a more minute description of the property bought, in the Budget of this City for the year 1913. The resolution was read the first time. January 2nd, 1913. Appropriation (of) $2500ºº Councilman [illegible] presented an Ordinance establishing the Fire limits in the City of Austin, and prohibiting the erection within the Fire limits of buildings of any material other than is provided for in this Ordinance; The removal and repairing of a certain class of buildings, and regulating the building of fences and the storage of combustible material within the Fire limits, and providing a penalty for the violation thereof. The ordinance was read the first time. N.B. The above ordinance was not handed the Clerk, until after the minutes for the 2nd day of January 1913, were written up, hence is recorded here. Jno. P.
