429 .Regula, meeting of the City Council: Austin, Texas, Jany 16th 1913 1912 The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent none. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetingswere read and adopted. Pierce, Fordyce Oil The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from the PierceFordyce Oil Co, asking Co Oil Tank permission to put in an underground Oil Tank , on West 6th street, which was read ,but no action taken on same. Dr. T O & F A Maxwell The Mayor laid before the Council a petitions from Drs T O & F A Maxwell, et al, in regard Cemetery lot to Cemetery lot , which was read amand laid over for investigation. Reports of City Officers: The Mayor laid before the Council report of the City Sexton for the month of Dec 1912, which was read and filed,also the report of the City Clerk reporting the result of the election held on the 15th day of December January 1913, which was read and Councilmen Hart & Powell appointed a Committee to verify the same and report to the Council. Unfinished business: Purchasing grounds The Mayor laid before the Council resolutions appropriating the sum of $ 4,500.00 for the City Stables purpose of purchasing grounds for City stables, which were read and passed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. 430 . The following is the resolution offered by Councilman Bartholomew in the matter of the nomination of Mr O E Metcalf as surveyor to survey the O.E. Metcalf approved, Survey land overflowed by Dam land to be overflowed by the building of the Dam . Resolved that the Supt of Parks and Public Property be authorized to employ O E Metcalf at a compensation of $6.00 per day and necessary expenses, to survey survey the land that will be overflowed by the Colorado River on account of the dam now being re-built across said River. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 4 Ayes, Councilman Bartholomew not voting The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, it appears from satisfactory evidence to us in the original receipts of the Wm P Carmichael Co, verified by the City Auditor, Milton Morris, and from the certificate of the Inspector at the dam, Mr S Ponder , that the City Dam Contractors time extended Water Power Co, did, in the period between Oct 14th 1912, and Dec 28th 1912, expend in the work of re-building the Austin Dam the sum of $58,073.61, and are entitled to sixteen (16) days time for time lost by floods and other causes not within the control of said City Water Power Co; Therefore; Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the City Water Power Co, Contractors, assignees of Wm D Johnson ,have to date complied with the conditions of their franchise to rebuild the dam, and that the sixth period of the franchise under said contract begins on December 28th, 1912, and that said City Water Power Co has expended more than the required amount of money in the fifth period of their contract required by the terms of their contract . The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hart, Haynes & R W owell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. The Council then recessed subject to call. Monday Jany 20th 1913. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present; The Mayor laid before the Council the following petition : Austin, Texas, 1/20-1913 To the Mayor, Austin, Texas. Dear Sir: I want permission to tack up a piece of canvas in front of my store 200 East 6th street, Just below the awning, with a strip of wood at the bottom to keep the wind from blowing it to pieces. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Lee Bowles Inspector Sewer Dept Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin , Texas, that the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be authorized to put Lee Bowles on the monthly pay roll of the Sewer Dept as Inspector at a salary of $80.00 per month ,in place of Frank Matthews, time commencing Jany 9th 1913.

Tuesday January 21st 1913. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present: The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That permit be and is hereby granted the Pierce-Fordyce Oil Association to install and maintain in the alley in the rear of No 203 West 6th street a gasoline tank ,for the purpose of storing gasoline.Said tank is to be undergroundBowser tank of 300 gallons capacity.
Pierce Fordyce Oil Co. Permit
It must not be placed less than two feet under ground,and installed under the supervision jointly of the City Engineer and Fire Marshal of this City. Authority is also granted to said Pierce-Fordyce Oil Association to instal a gasoline pump ,to be used in connection with said Gasoline tank,within the premises occupied by said Pierce-Fordyce Oil Association,at 203 West 6th street. This permit is granted and is to be received and accepted as being revocable at the pleasure of the City Council. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew,Hart, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. -Approved A P Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the east and west cross walkbetween lots 110 and 120 in Oakwood Cemetery ,which lots are owned by T O Maxwell and F A Maxwell ,of this City, is hereby vacated and authorized by the Council to be closed. Be it further resolved: That the owners of said lots be and they are hereby authorized to erect a monument in or about the center of said lots after said crosswalk is closed;provided, however,that if said cross walk is closed and said monument erected ,a cement walk must be constructed upon said crosswalk ,so that the public may conveniently cross the premises herein above described if they so desire.
