699 Regular meeting of the City Council : Austin, Texas, May 5th 1914 The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony,Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent none. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted .
Councilman Anthony nominated Mr H N Grimes , for theposition of Extra Driver for H. N. Grimes approved extra Driver Fire the Fire Dept, which nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Hay nes & Powell 4 Not voting Councilman Anthony 1 The Mayor laid before the Council the following reports of City Officers for the month of January 1914, which were read and ordered filed,viz: The Assessor & Collector, the Matron of the Hospital, The City Health Officer, Dr S J Swift Health Inspector, & the City Marshal. The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from Citizens residing on East 22nd street, Petition for lights on 22d St read & referred asking the installation of Lights on said street, which was read and referred to Councilman Bartholomew . The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from taxpayers of Austin, Petition to open Leona St. read & referred asking that Leona street in this City be opened for public usebetween 12th & 13th sts, which was read and at his request referred to the Mayor. Councilman Anthony offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That in view of the youth of one Fulton Hubbard ,and in view of the facts in the case that there are some extenuating circumstances in the case of the State of Texas vs Vagrancy fine against F. Hubbard held in suspense said Fulton Hubbard ,cause No 8316, in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin , wherein the said Fulton Hubbard was fined fifty ($50.00) dollars and costs for vagancy and in consideration of the agreement upon the part of said Fulton Hubbardto leave the City of Austin and permanently remain away. Now, therefore, Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the fine and costs in said cause are hereby ordered held in suspense and not to be enforced against said Fulton Hubbard , save and in the event of his return to the City of Austin ,whereupon the Marshal of the City of Austin is hereby directed to re-arre the said Fulton Hubbard and see that he either pays or works out the balance of the fine and costs in said cause imposed against him . 700 February 9th 1914. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present: The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution, which had been introduced and read Feby 2nd 1914, and laid over for one week: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the budget of the Mayor of the City of Austin of the General fund for the year 1914, bearing date January 31st 1914, and appropriating in the various departments the sum of $ 376,244.39, be and the same is hereby approved. Budget of Mayor of gen funds for 1914 Approved ✓ Be it further resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the budgets of the Mayor of the City of Austin for the year 1914, and appropriating $ 100,692.22, for the permanent Street Improvement fund; $ 37, 665.95 for the Sanitary Sewer fund; and $ 26,994.18, for the Sanitary Sewer Earnings fund, be and the same are also approved; and Be it further resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the appropriations in the above budgets of the City of Austin for the year 1914, as submitted and recommended by the Mayor in said several budgets, be and the same are hereby made as in said budgets are set out. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none.
The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That whereas, the firm of W H Richardson & Co, is, in the Judgement of the Council, the lowest and best bidder for Hardware for the 6 months ending July 1st 1914, Therefore, Resolved by the City Council: That the contract to furnish hardware to the departments of the City of Austin for the half year ending July 1st 1914, be and is hereby awarded to the said firm of W H Richardson & Co. W H Richardson awarded contract for Hardware for 6 mos 1914 to July 1st ✓ The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none.
The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That a permit be and is hereby granted to the Salvation Army to install and maintain at 206 West 6th Street, in this City an electric sign across the sidewalk. This sign is to be one foot high by three feet long; is to painted black with white letters, and to have two or more 16 candle power globes inside. The sign is to be suspended at least 8 feet above the sidewalk. Be it further resolved that the permit here granted must be accepted as temporary only, and subject to revocation at any time in the pleasure of the City Council – Salvation Army Electric Sign ✓ The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none.
