    Rejected a significant $8,500 offer to purchase 20 acres of land located near the Colorado River, while separately approving the purchase of a smaller 30x69 foot city plot for $600.
  • Infrastructure & Staffing:

    Authorized a $700 project to modify a sidewalk section on 8th Street and appointed Julian Montgomery as the 4th Assistant City Engineer.
  • Taxpayer Relief:

    Approved a unique request to waive interest and penalties on a citizen's cemetery taxes, acknowledging an "honest mistake" made regarding property sale funds.

.. Regular meeting of the City Council; Austin, Texas, June 11, 1914. The Council was called to order by the Mayor; Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew & Haynes 3 Absent Councilmen Anthony & Powell 2 The Council then recessed. June 13th 1914. The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the City Treasurer be requested, and hereby instructed to transfer the sum of one hundred and seventy four dollars ($ 174.00) from General street fund to Permanent street improvement fund, for the purpose of re-imbursing said fund for this amount which was erroneously drawn - See warrant No 3625. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the sum of $ 98.45, be transferred from the Sanitary Sewer Earnings fund to the " Sanitary Sewer fund" for the purpose of re-imbursing said fund for this amount which was erroneously drawnSee warrant No 2476, and the City Treasurer be requested to make said transfer. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the proposition of the Citizens Bank & Trust Co., through C O Smith, its agent, to sell to the City of Austin for eight thousand five hundred dollars ($ 8,500.00) , about twenty acres of land extending from a point near the Colorado River where a prolongation of the East side of East Avenue intersects the River, easterly to Waller street, thence to Clairmont Avenuewesterly on Clairmont Avenue to East Avenue and southerly on East Avenue to the point of beginning, be and the same is hereby declined. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. --- Page break --- JUNE.16TH 1914. • The Council was called to order by the Mayor with all members present : Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas : That the sum of fifty ($50.00) dollars be and is hereby transferred from Incidental fund of the Sanitary Sewer Earnings fund and appropriated to pay for the services of an Assistant to the Cashier of the Sanitary Sewer Department. Funds trfd to pay salary asst Cashier @ Sanitary Sewer Dept. √ The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved , A P Wooldridge, Mayor . Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas: That the following transfers affecting appropriations of the Sanitary Sewer fund made in 1914 budget ,be and are hereby authorized: Transfers from Salaries account $ 360.00 to refund for Lewis Hancock for lines in Aldridge Place. Transfers: From incidental fund $ 500.00 " " Machinery & Equipment 350.00 Transfers Sanitary Sewer funds √ " " Unappropriated 960.00 " " Printing ,Stationery & Postage 60.00 " " Disposal Plant 200.00 .To Contract fund. $ 2070.00 Be it further resolved, that of the $ 548.86 collected from various sources $ 500.00 be appropriated for the purchase of material , $ 35.00 be appropriated for pay for Blacksmithing and $ 10.00 be appropriated to pay damages. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas : That the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be and he is hereby authorized to put Mr Julian Montgomery on the monthly pay roll of the General Street Dept as 4th Assistant City Engineer at a salary of $ 83.33 per month in the place of Jno D Miller resigned,time commencing June 15th ,1914. Julian Montgomery appointed as 4th asst. City Engineer √ The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 4 Nays none. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas: That the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be and he is hereby 8th St sidewalk cut down √ authorized and instructed to cut down the sidewalk of the south side of 8th street between the alley west of Congress Avenue and the east side of the --- Page break --- . building at Colorado street belonging to Edwin Bowen, and to do other work connected therewith, covered by the estimate of the City Engineer, dated June 13th 1914. Be it further resolved, that seven hundred dollars ($ 700.00) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Permanent street fund to pay the cost of the above work. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the sum of six hundred ($600.00) dollars be and is hereby appropriated out of the General Street fund of the City of Austin, Texas, for the year 1914, to purchase a plot of ground 30 feet by 69 feet, the same being the central part of Lot No 1, block 140, in the City of Austin, Texas. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That inasmuch as there was an honest mistake on the part of V O Weed, as to how the sum of $ 434.00, arising from the sale of a certain piece of property to the City of Austin for cemetery taxes, should be applied on the payment of his taxes. Now, therefore, Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin : That the Assessor & Collector of taxes of the City of Austin, Texas, in settling with the said V O Weed for taxes due on 120 feet across the south part of lots 9 & 12, in block 2 Outlot 11 Div "Z", of the City of Austin, Texas, shall charge neither interest nor penalties against said property beyond the 9th day of January 1914, provided that promptly upon the passage of this resolution, all taxes owning by the said V O Weedare paid in full.
