  • Major Funding for City Growth:

    The city council approved $725,000 in bonds for crucial city projects, including $425,000 for street improvements, bridges, and storm sewers; $250,000 for public school construction and repairs; and $50,000 for new sanitary sewers.
  • Railroad Track Rerouting Approved:

    An amendment was passed for the Houston & Texas Central Railroad, allowing the relocation of a crossover track on Cypress/3rd Street as part of ongoing street paving and track rearrangement.
  • New Traveler's Aid Appointed:

    Mrs. Laura Harris was confirmed to fill the vacant position of Traveler's Aid, supporting individuals at the city's depots.

324 ..Regular meeting of the City Council : Austin, Texas, Sept 9th 1915. The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldradge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Absent none. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted: Reports of City Officers: The Mayor laid before the Council ,the reports of the Assessor & Collector, the Asst Clerk, the Sexton,Fire Marshal & the Inspector Weights & Measures, which were read and ordered filed: The Mayor laid before the Council an application of Lamar Steen ,for Drivers Drivers License license Auto, which was granted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Nays none: Unfinished Business: Bonds. The Mayor laid before the Council?An ordinance providing for the issuance of $ 425.000.of bonds of the City of Austin for permanent street improvements, including the building of bridges and the construction of storm sewersand large drains necessary to the proper improvements of the streets of said City and providing for the levying and collection of taxes for the payment of said bonds and interest thereon?which ordinance was introduced and read the first time on September 2nd ,1915, and laid over for one week. The ordinance was read the second time and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its third reading and final passage,which motion prevailed by Thes[illegible]ard[illegible]ex[illegible]rx[illegible]xexx[illegible]xxxx[illegible]exx[illegible]xexx[illegible]x the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Nays none. The ordinance was read the third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Nays none. The Mayor laid before the Council " An ordinance providing for theissuance of $ 250.000. of bonds of the City of Austin for the purpose of constructing, equiping and repairing the Public Free School Buildings of the City of Austin and of purchasing sites therefor ,and providing for the levying and collec-tion of taxesfor the payment of said bonds and interest thereon. "which ordinance was introduced and read the first time on the 2nd day of September 1915, and laid over for one week. The ordinance was read the second time and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its third reading and final passage. which motion pre-vailed by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Nays none. The ordinace was read the third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Nays none. The Mayor then laid before the Council @" An ordinance providing for the issuance of $ 50.000. of bonds of the City of Austin,for the purpose of con- --- Page break --- structing and installing sanitary sewers in said City, and providing for the levying and collection of taxes for the payment of said bonds and interest thereon", which ordinance was introduced ,and read the first time on September 2nd 1915, and laid over for one week. The ordinance was read the second time,and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its third reading and final passage, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. The ordinance was then read the third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony,Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Hd + Re Cy Ca Practly 3rd St The Mayor laid before the Council " An ordinance to amend sub-division four(4)of Section 1 of " Anordinance requiring the Houston & Texas Central Railroad Companyto pave thrird or Cypress streetfrom its intersection with Congress Avenue to its intersection with the east line of Neches streetand to construct certain sidewalsand curb lines, in consideration for which said Houston & Texas Central Railroad Company is granted the right to re-arrange its existing tracks on said third or Cypress street between Congress Avenue and Neches street ,and to construct additional tracks on Cypress or third street,all in the City of Aus Austin, Texas" passed by the City Council of the City of Austin February 25th ,1915,and providing that the second crossovertracks between the main line track and second track of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad Company ,referred,to,be changed and its location placed bet between San Jacinto & Trinity streets. The ordinance was read the first time and passed under suspension of the rules by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge,Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. On motion of Councilman Anthony,a fine assessed against V D Fugler,in the Recorders Court, was remitted ,by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. HLHCunningham Provisional September 11th 1915. In the matter of filling the vacancy in the position of Traveler's Aid at the Depots in this City coming on to be consideredin the nomination of Councilman W B Anthonyof Mrs Laura Harriswho was nominated to fill the vacancycaused by the resignation of Miss Lucy Campbell,former Traveler's Aid in this City . The nomination of Councilman Anthony was confirmed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew & Haynes 3 Not voting Councilman Anthony 1 Absent Councilman Haynes 1 The Council then adjourned.
