351 .Regular meeting of the City Council: Austin, Texas, October 21, 1915. .The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: .Present Mayor Wooldridge ,Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Powell .Absent excused Councilman Haynes 1 .Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : .A resolution finally accepting pavement and improvement in the alley between Congress .Avenue and Brazos street from 7th to 8th streets: .Whereas, the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements has filed his report with the .City Council to the effect that Wallace R Millerhas completed the work of paving and .improving the alley between Congress Avenue and Brazos streetfrom 7th to 8th streets under .contract with the City and that said work has been fully done in strict accordance with .said contract and specifications adopted by the City: Therefore, .Be itresolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: .That the said work of improvement be finally accepted by the City and that the .final estimate due by the City to said Wallace R Miller be paid. .The resolution was adopted by the following vote : .Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Powell 4 .Absent excused Councilman Haynes 1 [Handwritten in left margin:] W.R. Millen [Handwritten in left margin:] paving alley [Handwritten in left margin:] Brazos. 7th-8th .Applications for Drivers licenses were presented and licenses granted to the following .named persons,viz : .G C Calhoun, 305 Brazos street, .Jesse Walker, 81 Curve Street. .City Engineer Welborn, to whom was referred the bids for Fire Escape at the City .Hospital,presented the following communication:Together with a tabulated statement of bids .for same; [Handwritten above the following line:] Engineer J. Welborn .FromXXXXXXXXXXXCommunicationXXX .To the Hon Mayor and City Council , .City of Austin,Texas. .Gentlemen: .The following is a tabulation of the bids opened yesterday for Fire Escapes to .be constructed on the old and new City Hospitals: [Handwritten in left margin:] Fire escapes [Handwritten in left margin:] Hospital .Location . Bidders. .Anderson, Bowers, Harvey, .West end of Old building * 172.00 $110.00, $150.00 .East " " 135.00. 180.00, .New Building, 341.00. 275.00, .255.00. .Total for 3 Escapes 648.00, 565.00, .Total for New and West end of old building 513.00, 385.00, 415.00, .Total for New and East end of old building. 476.00, 455.00, .From this tabulation it is evident that for a fire escape on the west end of the building .and one on the new building,the bid of Mr Bowers is the powest bid,and I recommend that .same be accepted. .The acceptance of this bid should be conditionedon the successful bidder's .furnishing detailed plans and specifications satisfactory to the Fire Marshaland Fire .Chief and to the City Engineerbefore any work on the structures is allowed to proceed. .Respectfully, .J C Welborn ,City Engineer. .The recommendations of the Engineer were approved,and the contract awarded to Mr Bowers .by the following vote: .Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Powell 4 [Handwritten in right margin:] 1 --- Page break --- Daily Balances For School fun to Public school Sinking fund Chas Munch fine remitted Wm Tearsfor Building permit A M Kreisler Services --- Page break --- 353 October 25th 1915. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to invite bids, by printed notices, for street paving for all of the classes of pavement submitted to the City Council for its considerationat the meeting of said Supt Streets to advertise for bids for paving Council held on October 25th hand 26th ,1915; and he is further instructed to fix the date for the receiving of said bids for 12 o'clock M.on Thursday November 18,1915, at the Mayors office in the City of Austin,Texas; and he is further instructed to specify that a certified check in the amount of $ 5,000.00,upon an Austin Bank will be required of each bidder. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. The Council then adjourned.
