506 Regular meeting of the City Council; Austin, Texas, May 11, 1916: The Council was called to order, By the Mayor; Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony & Haynes 3 Absent Councilmen Bartholomew & Powell 2 The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and approved: Storm Sewer Contract awarded Dallas Lime & Gravel Co. Mayor Wooldridge, moved that Contract Nº 1 ,for Storm Sewer on Nueces street, be awarded to the Dallas Lime & Gravel Co, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony & Haynes 3 Absent Councilmen Bartholomew & Powell 2 Mayor Wooldridge moved that the award for Contract Nº 2, Nueces storm sewer b e postponed ,until a later date, which motion prevailed by the foll -lowing vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony & Haynes 3 Absent Councilmen Bartholomew & Powell 2 The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas : Jno Ezelle house moving That a permit be and is hereby granted to Jno Ezelle to m move the frame house now situated upon the lot at the corner of Brazos and 11th streets in this City across Congress Avenue at 19th street, thence by a direct route to the corner of West Avenue and 19th street,upon the following conditions: First: That a regular housemoving bond in the penalty of $ 500.00, be given given by the said Jno Ezelle. Second: That the said Jno Ezelle obtain the consent of the Austin Street Railway Company to cross Congress Avenue under its lines at 19th street and Congress Avenue, and file said consent with the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements . Third: That he file the written consent of the Telephone Companiesunder whose wires he may cross in making this trip. Fourth: That he file with the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements the written consent of the Supt of Parks and Public Property to pass under.XXXX any of the electric light or power wires of this City ,if any shall be crossed under this trip . The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Storm Sewer 16th to 19th to be done by City Councilman Powell KKKXXXX XhXXXXXXKKXXXXXXXX moved that the City by force work undertake to build the storm Sewer on San Antonio street north from 16th to 19th streets ,and that all bids heretofore presented for thecon-struction of this work ,such contract being known as contract Nº 2,be rejectd The motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. --- Page break --- 507 Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the sum of fifteen hundred ($ 1,500.00) dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Permanent Street Improvement fund for the purpose of constructing Storm Sewer 18th & Brazos Streets a storm sewer , beginning at the intersection of 18th street and Brazos street ,running eastward on Brazos street ,a distance of one block to San Jacinto street ; thence North-ward , a distance of a half block ; thence eastward through the alley , a distance of a half block to Waller Creek, same to be constructed of 30 " and 36" cement pipe. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Powell 4 Nays Councilman Haynes 1. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. I vote NO on above for the same reasons that I voted against the spending of the bond money on the Little Shoal Creek sewer ,& that I do not believe the fund should be Haynes motion for Veto spent on work to benefit private properties except on the same basis as for paving out of the same fund the City only paying 1/5th and the parties benefitted 4/5ths H L Haynes, May 17th 1916: The following named persons applied for license as drivers of service cars , and license granted ,by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Drivers license Vis : Page Hill, Austin, Route No 1 R R Billingsley, 1113 W 5th street. Councilman Bartholomew offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That Walter L Eyres be and he is hereby authorized to attend ,at the City's J L Expenses To attend Convention at City Expense expense, out of the Earnings fund of the Water & Light department, the convention of the Southwestern Gas and Electric Light Association soon to be held in Galveston, Texas. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: May 18th 1916: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : Storm Sewer Nueces 16th to 19th Awarded to Wm Fuhrmann That contract No 3, for the construction of a storm sewer on Nueces street from 16th to 19th street in this City be and the same is hereby awarded to William Fuhrmann on his bid of $ 4,725.00. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor.
