Regular meeting of the City Council : Austin, Texas, July 27, 1916: The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of one hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars ,be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary Sewer fund to pay for the construction of a six inch (6") sewer line in the alley between Willow and Canterburry streets east from Chicon street a distance of three hundred feet (300) The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Snthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of one hundred ($100.00)dollars, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary Sewer fund to pay for the construction of a six inch (6") sewer line in the alley between Willow and 1st streets east from Chicon street a distance of two hundred feet (200" ) The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the sum of four hundred ( $ 400.00) dollars ,be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary Sewer fund for the purpose of constructing a six inch (6")sewer line at the intersection of East Avenue at 22nd street running northward along East Avenue one block ,thence westward one-half block ,thence northward one block a total distance of eight hundred feet ( 800') in order to provide,sewerage service for the property of Mr Haynel and Mr Snyder. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: Mayor Wooldridge, moved that the Council reconsider a resolution heretofore passed by the Council ,granting to M P & W R Miller authority to put in a gasoline tank at their place 112 &to 118 on East 7th street, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That a permit is hereby granted to Miles P and Wallace R Miller to install and maintain a five barrel gasoline tank made of twelve guage iron riveted ,dimensions 26" by 5 'to be approved by the Supt of Police and Public Safety ,under the sidewalk on East 7th street in front of Numbers 112 to 118, in the City of Austin, Texas . 573 Sewer Willow & Canterbury St. Sewer Willow & [illegible] Sewer East (E. Avenue & 22nd St.) M P & W R Miller --- Page break --- 574 .Resolved further : That in connection with this gasoline tank hereby authorized to be installed the said Miles P and Wallace R Miller are likewise authorized to install and maintain a gasoline pump to be located at the curb line in front of numbers 112 to 118 East 7th street at a position to be designated by the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements ;said gasoline pump to be of the most modern and approved construction and design and subject to the approval of the Supt of Police and Public Safety. Resolved further : That Miles P and Wallace R Miller shall install and maintain at the topand upon the gasoline pump hereby authorized an electric light of not less than forty (40) wattpower and placed in a globe of not less than ten (10)inches in diameter, which electric light must be kept illuminated not less than three hours daily ,between the hours of 6 and 12 O'clock P M during the existence of this permit . Resolved further : That the Hose through which air ,gasoline or any other oil or volatile substan is conveyed ,by pumping or otherwise from the store house at 201 East 7th sts of same ,must be kept when not in actual use ,neatly coiled , and stored in a receptacle provided for such hose in the pump authorized to be installed or suspended from a suitable bracket attached to the pump . Resolved further : That the work under this resolution authorized to be installed and maintained must be installed and maintained,where not otherwise assigned, under the immediate supervision of the City Engineer of the City of Austin, Texas,who is hereby authorized to prescribe necessary specifications for the work herein authorized to be done. Resolved further and finally : That this permit is granted only for the installation of a gasoline tank and pump and does not include the installation or construction of a storage box for hose underneath the sidewalk,and that this permit is granted and must be accepted as revocable at any time in the pleasure of the City Council. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anth ny, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew. 1 Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolution finally accepting pavement and improvement of Red River street from the south property line of 11th street to the south property line of 12th street . Whereas, the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements has filed his report with the City Council to the effect that the Texas Bitulithic Company has completed the work of paving and improving Red River street ,from the south p roperty line of 11th street to the south property line of 12th street . under contract with the City ,and that said work has been fully done in strict accordance with said contract and specifications adopted by the City; Now,therefore, --- Page break --- 535 ..Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the said work of improvement be finally accepted by the City and that the final estimate due by the City to the said Company be paid. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman FMMXXXX Bartholomew 1 Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : A resolution finally accepting pavement and improvement of East 1st street from the east property line of Congress Avenue to the east property line of Chicon street; Whereas, the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements has filed his report with the Pavement & East City Council to the effect that the Texas Bitulithic Company has completed the work of 1st accepted paving and improving East 1st street ,from the East property line of Congress Avenue to the East property line of Chicon street ,under contract with the City, and that said work has been fully done in strict accordance with said contract and specifications adopted by the City ; Now, Therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the said work of improvement be finally accepted by the City and that the final estimated due by the City to the said Company be paid. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the bid for supplying burial service to the City for white paupers be and the V. O. Weed same is hereby awarded to V O Weed for the six months beginning July 1st ,1916,and termiContract -nating December 31st ,1916. per the following schedule: Burial for Coffins,plain pine with pillow and thumb screws $ 2.50 Paupers. Hauling paupers to cemetery 2.00 ( when two hauls are required ,extra 1.00 Hauling sick paupers in ambulance 1.50 ( When two hauls are required,extra 1.00 Hauling sick paupers in carriage or car 50 per seat The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Approved , A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Councilman Anthony offered the following resolution : Fine Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: Francisco That for good and sufficient causes unto the City Council shown ,the balance of the Salones fine & Costs ,amounting to $ 5.80, in cause No 10790,State of Texas vs Francisco Salones, in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, be and the same are hereby remitted. The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge,Councilmen Anthony,Haynes & Powell 4 Absent Councilman Bartholomew 1 Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. July 31st 1916: The Mayor laid before the Council applications for license to drive service Cars from the following named persons,viz: W T Suhr, 1404 Rosewood Avenue, L G Bratt on ,1175 Comal street, The applications were granted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas : That the sum of one hundred and twenty five($ 125.00) dollars ,be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary Sewer fund for the purpose of constructing a six inch(6") sewer line beginning at Baylor street running westward on 12th street ,one half block,thence northward through the alley between Baylor and Castle Hills a distance of one half block the total length of two hundred and fifty feet ( 250") The resolution was adopted by the following vote : Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony ,Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the sum of one hundred and twenty five ( $ 125.00) dollars , be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary Sewer fund for the purpose of constructing a six inch (6") sewer line two hundred and fifty feet (250' ) long north of Pressler street from the north line of 6th street to serve the Smoot homesteadrecently disconnected.
