Regular meeting of the City Council : Austin, Texas, August 24, 1916: The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent none: The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted : Sanitary Inspector Report. Councilman Haynes presented the report of the Sanitary Inspector for the months of July & June, which were read and ordered filed: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Bridge - E. 14th St. appropriation $600.00 Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of $ 600.00, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the permanent Street fund ,to pay for filling the approaches to the bridge across Waller creek on East 14th street, and for the installation of the necessary drain pipes at this bridge. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolv d by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : Sewer - E. 18th St. $100.00 app. That the sum of $ 100.00,dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary sewer fund to pay for the construction of a 6" inch sewer line along the south side of East 18th street from San Jacinto street towards Brazos street a distance of 200 feet. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : Sewer - E. Ave $200.00 app. That the sum of $ 200.00, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary sewer fund,to pay for the construction of a 6 " sewer line across the intersection of 19th street with East Avenue and northward on Oldham street a distance of 350 feet. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Sewer alley between Neches & Red River $200.00 app. Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of $ 200.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Sanitary sewer fund to pay for the construction of a 6 " sewer line in the alley between Neches and Red River streets from 19 th to 19½ streets,a distance of 300 feet. August 21st 1916: Councilman Haynes offered the following resolution: Whereas, it appears from the attached affidavit of E D Harris, that lots 2 & 3, block 14, in Hyde Park addition No 2, to the City of Austin, Texas, constitute his homestead and have been his homestead for about 3 years prior to the present date; and Whereas, said E D Harris has been sued for taxes on said homestead for the year 1915, as well as for taxes on other property that he heretofore owned; and Whereas, the said E D Harris desires to segregate said homestead from his other property and pay the taxes thereon and prefers so to do; and Whereas, the said E D Harris has paid the costs in the Dist Court of Travis County, Texas, in the amount of $ 7.50, in cause No 33324, City of Austin vs E D Harris, et al; and Whereas, the City Council believes it to be the law that the homestead is liable only for the taxes due against itself, Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of t e City of Austin, Texas: That the Assessor & Collector of the City of Austin, Texas, be and he is hereby istmuoted to issue a receipt against the taxes due from the above described homestead of the said E D Harris when paid in the amount of $ 33.00, with interest and penalties for the year 1914, and $ 36.90. with interest and penalties for the year 1915, leaving the taxes due upon the personal property for both of these years to be collected from other sources than the homestead The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That a permit be and is hereby granted to the Handelan Base Ball people to install and maintain at 701 Congress Avenue a baseball court, and Be it further resolve by the City Council of the City of Austin: That this permit is revocable at the pleasure of the City Council. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. August 26th 1916: Jitney license Refund. Wm Bruckmann Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas: That the sum of $ 20.00, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent fund of the City of Austin, Texas, as a refund to Wm Bruckmann for the unearned portion of the Jitney License heretofore granted to him. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of $ 250.00, be and the same is hereby transferred from the General Paving – Bell St. between Baylor & Blanco.
