755 Regular meeting of the City Council: Austin, Texas, Jany 18th 1917: The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called: . . . Presnt Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent none: The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted: Reports of City Officers: Reports of Officers. The Mayor laid before the City Council the reports of the City Health Inspector,Dr Pease, the City Health Officer,the Fire Marshal,the City Sexton ,for the month of Dec 1916, which were read and ordered filed: The following applications for licenses as drivers of service cars were Drivers' licenses presented and licenses granted ,viz : Geo Fiegel Jr ,506 Guadalupe street Richard Hicks, 715 West Avenue J L Condit, 1000 SanAntonio street. The Mayor presented application of Tom Turney,asking remission of Fine in Recorders Fine - Court, which on motion was granted ,and fine remitted by the following vote: Tom Turney. Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas : Supt. Streets &c. That the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be authorized to sell one pair of old Sale of mules. mules or put them in exchange for other mules. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolution approving City Engineers report concerning improvements upon Guadalupe Paving - street ,in this City, from the north property line of 28th street to the north property Guadalupe St. line of 27th street ,east, and directing a hearing to property owners concerning the assessment for a part of the costs of such improvement against them and their property, fixing a time for said hearing and directing that a notice be given to said property owners concerning the said hearing. The resolution was read the first time and laid over for one week.
January 19th 1917:All present: Drivers license - Application of Addison Smith ,1218 W 5th street for license as driver edf service car Addison Smith was presented and licenses granted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: Councilman Bartholomew offered the following resolution : W.L.&P. Dept - Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas, Purchase [illegible] That the Supt of Parks and Public Propertyer of the City of Austin,Texas, be authorized [illegible] to purchase out of the Earnings Fund of the Water, Light and Power dept.the necessary conduit for underground construction for electric cables in the following streets and alley in the City of Austin, viz : The alley between Congress Avenue and Brazos street,from 1st street to 3rd street; On Congress Avenue from the north end of the Colorado bridge to 1st street;

Damages - Sam Mason. Mayor Wooldridge offered the following reoslution28th 1917; All present: resolution Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the sum of one hundred ($100.00) dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated as an anticipatory appropriation out of the cost and damage appropriation in the appropriations of the general street fund of this City for the year 1917, in full payment and complete discharge of the claim of Sam Mason against the City of Austin for damages incurred from the concentration of waters causing overflow of his premises at the corner of 4th and Comal streets in this City. This appropriation is to cover past and future conditions of damage to the premises to the said Sam Mason at the corner of 4th and Comal streets in this City by reason of overflow of waters. Bridge - E. 16th St. Ben J. Kn. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution: Whereas, the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements has filed his report with the City Council to the effect that Ben J Knappe has completed the work of construvcting a re-inforced concrete arch bridge across Waller creek on East 16th street and that said work has been fully done in strict accordance with the contract and specifications adopted therefor by the City Council; Now therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the said work of improvement be finally accepted by the City Council and that the final estimate due by the City to said contractor be paid: The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor.
