777 Regular meeting of the City Council: Austin, Texas, May 17, 1917: The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Haynes 4 Absent Councilman Powell 1 The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted: Councilman Haynes presented the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the appeal of J M Nunamaker from the action of the Board of Equalization of this Cityin assessing his improvements upon Lots 5 & 6, Block 8, Travis Heights Addition to the City of Austin, Texas, be and the same is allowed and the valuation of said improve-ments reduced from $ 1,500.00 to $ 1,000.00. Councilman Haynes offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the value of improvements on Lot No 9, Block No 7, City of Austin, Texas, be and the same is hereby fixed at $ 500.00, that valuation being recommended to the City Council as a proper one by Fred Sterzing, Assessor & Collector of this City, who is perfectly famili-iar with the value of said propertyand its comparative value with property adjacent thereto. This property is the property of Mrs W B Brush. Councilman Haynes offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the petition of Orlander Caldwellto revise the valuation placed upon his Lot situated at the corner of San Jacinto and East 10th street in this City be and the same is hereby declined. Joe DeWitt,1701 E 13 th° street: The licenses were granted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Haynes 4 Absent Councilman Powell 1 Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That with the consent of the contractee, William Young, the contract between the City of Austin and himself, the said William Young of Dallas, Texas, to install a completeunit systemof property values and property equalizations in this City, which contract bears date October 15th, 1915, be and the same is hereby revoked, rescinded and annulled. The Mayor laid before the Council the bond of Fred Sterning as City Assessor & Collector of the City of Austin, Texas, in the sum of $ 38.000.00, with Meman Pressler, J P Schneider and F A Wroe as sureties, which bond was approved by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew & Haynes 4 Absent Councilm n Powell 1 The Mayor laid before the Council the bond of Jno O Johnson as City Clerk, with H A Wroe, T H Davis & J A Jackson as sureties, which was read and filed. The Mayor laid before the Council a protest of Market men protesting against being removed from the present Market place on East Avenue, which ws a read and filed. The Mayor laid before the Council a protest of Citizens against Dumping ground in North Austin, which was read and filed. The Mayor laid before the Council a petition from City Employees asking for half holiday on saturdays of each week, which was read and filed.
