Regular meeting of the City Council: Austi ,Texas, July 05, 1917: The Council was called to order by the Mayor; Roll Called: Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Absent none: The Mayor laid before the Council the following reports of City Officers for the Month of June 2917, which were read and filed,vis: The City Health Officer, the Dog Catcher,the Public Weigher, the Inspector Weights and measures the Chief Fire Dept: Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution: Whereas, in view of the fact that the families of the three Metzenhtnin Brothers ,Fred K Metzenthin, Paul Metzenthin, and W W Metzenthin,have, in the judgement of the City Council been sufficiently punished in the enforcement of the large fine and penalties assessed against him ,the said W W Metsen thin,in cause NO 12060,State of Texas vs W W Metsenthin, Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Tex as: That the fine and penalties in causes numbers 11735, and 11736 imposed against Fred K Metzen thin and Paul Metzenthinrespectively,be and the same are hereby remitted. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, P Wooldridge, Mayor. L.W. Wooldridge re: fine remitted Mayor Wooldridge laid before the Council the following communication: Austin,Texas, June 28th 1917: To the Hon Mayor and City Council . Austin,Texas. Gentlemen : Previous to the time that your honorable body accepted "EnfieldA" addition streets,sidewalks,etc, we had at our expense constructed about two miles of Cement sidewalks 4' wide. We made these sidewalks this width in order to preserve the trees Sidewalks Enfield wide reduced and the natural beauty of the land .Therefore, we now petition your honorable body to deviate from your regulation wodth and to give instructions to have all further sidewalks in " Enfield A " constructed 4' wide in order to conform with those already constructed. We feel that this difference in width of the sidewalks will not be noticed at all as "Enfield" Addition is a " Park" addition within itself. Across Colorado River The Mayor laid before the Council an ordinance to prohibit trespassing upon the Steel Railroad bridge over the Colorado River at Austin,and prescribing a penalty. The ordinance was read the first time and laid over for one week. On motion Caesar Wells was granted time until January 1st 1918,in which to make sewer connection. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin,Texas: That a permit is hereby granted to the Gulf Refining Company to install and maintain across and underneath the sidewalk in front of Nos 601-607 West 6th street, two lines of iron pipe for the purpose on conducting gasoline from a piont near the curb line, to the storage tank, to be installed inside and upon the property at the above named location. Resolved further: That in connection with and at the termini of these two pipes near the curb line ,the said Gulf Refining Company is likewise authorized to install and maintain in and under-neath the sidewalk space in front of 601-607 West 6th st street a box for the purpose of enclosing the termini of the two pipes hereby authorized to be installed ,said box to br constructed with a cast iron cover, set flush with the top of the sidewalk. Resolved further: That the box hereby authorized to be installedshall be kept securely closed at all times except during the acrual filling of the gasoline storage tanks through the pipes herein authorized to be installed. Resolved further: That the work under this resolution authorized to be installed and main-tained must be installed and maintained,where not otherwise assigned, under the immediate supervision of the City Engineer of the City of Austin,Texas.who is hereby authorized to prescribe necessary specifications for the work herein authorized to be done. Resolved further and finally: That this permit is granted and must be accepted as revocable at any time in the pleasure of the City Council. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That the owners of property abutting on the East side of Guadalupe street between 26th and 27th streets be and they are hereby ordered to construct cement sidewalks ,4 and 4½ feet inwidth, adjacent their premises along said street ,and, Be it further resolved: That the Supt of Streets and Public Improvements be and he is hereby authorized to take the necessary legal steps to put this resolution into effect The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, P W Powell ,Mayor, Protem. Lardus Sidewalk Enfield Add'n 4 ft. Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That the width of sidewalks in Enfield Addition "A" be and are hereby estab-lished at four (4') feet in order to correspond with sidewalks constructed before said addition was opened up. Ing Granted time Renovations July 9th 1917: Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin: That an extension of time to October 1st ,1917, be and is hereby granted to T J Ing within which to make sanitary sewer connection at his residence No 219 West 35th street, Austin, Texas. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, Approved, P Wooldridge, Mayor. Cisco Wells Granted time to make sewer Connections Councilman Powell offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That an extension of time to January 1st 1918, for sanitary sewer connections at his premises No 1705 Newton street be and the same is hereby granted to Cisco Wells ,Colored.
