  • Circus Comes to Town:

    Approved a permit for Brundidge Shows to exhibit for a week, granting them free use of Auditorium Square and allowing temporary street closures on parts of Guadalupe and San Antonio Streets.
  • Winter Home for the Circus:

    Facilitated the Brundidge Shows' request to winter in Austin from December 1917 to March 1918, permitting their cars to stand on Dam & Suburban Railway tracks near the Austin Dam, with the condition of not obstructing road crossings.
  • New Business Regulations:

    Enacted an ordinance to regulate junk dealers within the city, establishing rules for their operations and outlining penalties for non-compliance.

71 .Regular meeting of the City Council, Austin, Texas. November 08, 1917: The Council was called to order by the Mayor: Roll called : Present Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell Absent none. The minutes of the last regular and subsequent recessed meetings were read and adopted : Reports; [illegible] - Collector, Reports of City Officers: city Health Officer The Mayor laid before the Council the following reports of City Officers, Sanitary Inspector. which were read and ordered filed, viz: The Assessor & Collector, the Marshal, the City Health Officer and the Sanitary Inspector: Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas: That a permit and privilege is hereby granted to the Brundidge shows to exhibit in this Cityfor the week beginning November 19th 1917, and to facilitate their exhibition in this City ,permission is hereby granted to the said Brundidge shows to use the auditorium square in this City free of charge ,and to further facilitate said shows, the City Council hereby agrees Brundige shows - to vacate one-half of the roadway on Guadalupe street from 4th to 5th stree permit in this City during the week of said shows, and hereby agrees to entirely vacate San Antonio street in this City between 4th and 5th streets ,save a and except such part of the west side of San Antonio street south of 5th street as may be necessary to be reserved for the convenient of accesson the part of Chas Cabinoss to his stables located on. San Antonio street south of 5th street. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none. Approved, A P Wooldridge, Mayor: Mayor Wooldridge offered the following resolution : Resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, Texas : That in consideration of the fact that the Brundige shows are to winter Brundige shows - in this City from about the 1 st of December 1917, to about the 1st of consent for cars March 1918, consent is hereby granted the Dam and Suburban Railway Company To stand on to let said shows stop or stand their cars upon the tracks of the Dam and Dam & Suburban Suburban Railway Company upon such sites as may be chosen by said Company track. near the Austin Dam; provided that said Brundidge shows must keep their cars from obstructing any road or street crossing over the tracks of said Dam & Suburban Railway Company at or about the place where they wish to stop ,stand or keep said cars. Gentlemen: Please take notice that a special meeting of the City Council is hereby called this day at 3: 00 P M ,for the purpose of considering the enactment of a Junk ordinance for this City, Respectfully, A P Wooldridge, Mayor. Received notice this 9th day of November,1917. E U Bartholomew W B Anthony P W Powell H L Haynes. Council called to order by the Mayor, with all members present: Mayor Wooldridge presented an ordinance regulating the business of Junk dealers and declaring penalties for the violation thereof. The ordinance was read the first time, and a motion made to suspend the rule and place it on its second reading, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none: The ordinance was then read the second time, and a motion made to further suspend the rule and place it on its third reading and final passage, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none, The ordinance was then read the third time and passed by the following vote: Yeas Mayor Wooldridge ,Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes & Powell 5 Nays none.
