28 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 24, 1918. The Mayor laid before the Council applications for public service car licenses as follows: Will Wilson, 76 East avenue, Ford, No. 217283; Isaiah Owens, 1005 Westlyn street, Ford, No. 235765; Haywood Clemons, 911 San Marcos street, Ford (Motor) No. 637982; Oscar Bouldin, 500 Waller street, Ford, No. 246009; Edward H. Bryant, 2001 East Twelfth street, Ford, No. 132855; John Slaughter, RFD No. 2, Creedmoor, Ford, No. 188211. All were granted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. Service car [illegible] V. E. [illegible] City Clerk REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 25, 1918. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of July 18 and subsequent meetings were read and approved by a vote of 5 yeas. Councilman Anthony offered the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the fine and costs, amounting to $19.80, assessed against William Johnson for gaming, in Cause No. 12961, Corporation Court of the City of Austin, be and the same are hereby remitted. This action is taken in consideration of the fact that the said William Johnson assisted the prosecution by giving testimony in a number of like cases, and because of other favoring circumstances. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. APPROVED, July 25, 1918: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. By a vote of 5 yeas, on motion of the Mayor, permission was granted to Billy Ebner to erect an illuminated sign, in accordance with specifications submitted, in front of the Queen Theatre, 700 Congress avenue. The report of the City Sanitary Inspector for May and June, also the reports of the Municipal Nurse and the Secretary of the United Charities for June, were read and ordered filed. The June reports of R. A. Cousins, agent in charge of the United States Employment Bureau, and the Engineering, Street and Sanitary Sewer Departments were read and ordered filed. The Mayor read to the Council a letter from Dr. L. W. Payne, Jr., chairman of summer school lectures, expressing the thanks of the University Summer School students and faculty for a band concert given by the City Government on the University campus. Councilman Anthony submitted the resignations of E. L. Lockwood and W. C. Hart as hosemen in the Fire Department. The resigna- tions were accepted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays.
