The resolution was adopted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. APPROVED, July 31, 1918: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That for good and sufficient reasons unto the City Council shown, one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to Fourteen Dollars and Eighty Cents ($14.80), assessed against William Adkinson in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, in Cause No. 12985, for the offense of speeding, be and the same is hereby remitted. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. APPROVED, July 31, 1918: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. Applications for public service car licenses, as follows, were laid before the Council and granted by votes of 5 yeas, no nays: J. S. McMillan, 4305 Avenue C, Maxwell car, No. 72114; Ashton Plummer, 2600 Guadalupe street, Rambler, No. 131974. The Council then adjourned.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 1, 1918.
The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of July 25 and subsequent meetings were read and approved by a vote of 5 yeas. The report of P. J. Plumb, Public Weigher, for July, was read and ordered filed. Joe Harrell, president of the City School Board, and A. N. McCallum, Superintendent of Schools, were before the Council in reference to amounts due the school board from collections of interest, penalties and costs on school taxes since last March. The Assessor and Collector of Taxes was instructed to calculate the amount due the schools under this head. Lyman J. Bailey, Probation Officer, was present and appealed to the Council to light the parks well at night, particularly on concert nights. The Mayor read to the Council a letter describing the farreaching plans of the Federal Government relative to the recruiting of labor for various industries. Councilman Anthony offered the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That for good and sufficient reasons unto the City Council shown,
