Martin City Clerk REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 8, 1918. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes, and Powell, 4; absent, Councilman Bartholomew, 1. The minutes of August 1 and subsequent meetings were read and approved by a vote of 4 yeas, no nays. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: Service cars on That the standing, stopping and staying of public service cars, Red River - beyond the necessary time for loading and unloading of passengers, on Sabine Sts. 18th street from Red River street to East avenue and on Sabine street from 17th to 18th streets, be and the same is hereby prohibited. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 4 yeas, no nays. APPROVED, August 8, 1918: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: Due from That the sum of Two Hundred Forty Dollars and Sixteen Cents interest ($240.16) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Conpenalties due tingent Fund of the City of Austin, Texas, and made payable to the Treas- Sch. Board: urer of the Austin School Board in payment of the indebtedness of the City appropriation of Austin, Texas, to the School Board for interest and penalties upon delinquent taxes collected by the Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin for account of the Austin School Board. The amount due the School Board upon delinquent interest is $192.40; the amount due the School Board for delinquent penalties is $47.76; the total of these amounts is $240.16. This payment covers a settlement between the City of Austin and the Austin School Board and covers the months of March, April, May, June and July, 1918. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 4 yeas, no nays. APPROVED, August 8, 1918: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. Councilman Bartholomew now present: The Mayor laid before the Council "An ordinance regulating the Service car rates of fare for automobiles engaged in the business of carrying pasRates sengers for hire and prescribing penalties for violation hereof." The ordinance was read the first time, after which reading the Mayor moved a suspension of the rule and the placing of the ordinance on its second reading. The motion carried by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The ordinance was read the second time and the Mayor moved a --- Page break --- 38 further suspension of the rule and the placing of it on its third reading. This motion prevailed by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The ordinance was read the third time, and on motion of the Mayor was finally passed by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. On motion of the Mayor, Councilman Bartholomew's request for leave of absence from Saturday, August 10, to the end of the month was granted by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes, and Powell, 4; nays none. The application of Oscar F. Jones, 3907 Avenue B, for public service car license on his Ford automobile, No. 182895 was granted by vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The Mayor read to the Council a proposed new schedule of water and power rates. The Council then adjourned. V.E. Martin City Clerk Service Car Licenses SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 13, 1918. The Mayor laid before the Council applications for public service car licenses as follows: Joseph Warren Brown, 4511 Avenue F, Ford car No. 131544; W. T. Patton, 2110 Oldham street, Buick, No. 321982; W. H. Stubbs, 1603 Canterbury street, Ford, No. 180591; Fred C. Gesswein, 509 Hearn street, Reo, No. 132045; Liberty Motor Buss Company, 816 Scarbrough building, Ford, No. 277895, and Ford, No. 277896. All were granted by vote of 4 yeas, no nays. Councilman Bartholomew being out of the city. V.E. Martin City Clerk Repairs at Crematory Appropriation SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 14, 1918. The Council met with all members present except Councilman Bartholomew. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the sum of One Hundred Thirty-three Dollars ($133.00) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund of the City of Austin, Texas, and credited to a special account in the Sanitary Department of this city, entitled, "Repairs at Crematory," for the following purposes: $63.00 of the above amount is to be paid to Heierman Bros. for sheet iron for use in repairing the smokestack at the city crematory; $70.00 is to be paid to Tony Wagner for doing all repair work on the smokestack at said crematory.
