69 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Sept. 26, 1918.
The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of Sept. 19 and subsequent meetings were read and approved by vote of 5 yeas, no nays. S.W. Johnson The application of S. W. Johnson, of 1306 Nueces street on Jeffrey car on his Jeffrey car, No. 131985, for public service car license License was laid before the Council and granted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The August report of the Engineering, Street and Sewer Departments, and that of the Sanitary Inspector, were read and ordered filed. Mrs. Annie B. Myrick, lessee of Barton Springs, was present and discussed with the Council conditions upon which she might keep the bathing resort open during the winter. T.W. Currie The Rev. T. W. A committee of the employees of the Austin Street Railway ComPetition for pany submitted a petition asking that 6-cent fares be authorized. It 6 cent was declared that the employees were underpaid and that under present street car conditions the company was unable to increase wages. W. J. Jones, presfares ident of the Street Railway Company, spoke to the same effect. Upon the Mayor's request, he agreed to submit within a few days a financial statement showing accurately the condition of the business. Action on the petition was deferred. Ben F. Wright Councilman Bartholomew nominated Ben F. Wright to be Cashier of Elected the Water and Light Department, beginning October 1, at the salary of Cashier $2,000.00 per annum. The nomination was confirmed by the following vote: W & L Dept Yeas, Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Haynes, and Powell, 4; nays none; Councilman Bartholomew not voting. The Council then adjourned.
