Austin OKs New Drive-In Gas Station

  • The city authorized Magnolia Petroleum Company to build a "modern drive-in auto filling station" at the southwest corner of Lavaca and Fourteenth streets.

119 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Jan. 10, 1919. The Council met with all members present except Councilman Powell. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the Magnolia Petroleum Company of Texas be and it is hereby authorized to erect and maintain on a space of ground about 60 feet by 60 feet at the southwest corner of Lavaca and Fourteenth streets in this city, a modern drive-in auto filling station from which it shall be authorized to sell to the trade gasoline, lubricating oils, greases and other products and accessories. Said Magnolia Petroleum Company is authorized under this permit to construct a driveway so as to permit ingress and egress to said station on both Lavaca and Fourteenth streets for automobiles, trucks, etc., desiring to enter or leave such station, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this permit is hereby granted subject to present and future rules, regulations and ordinances of the City of Austin regulating auto filling stations, and BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER: That this permit is granted subject to revocation at any time in the judgment of the City Council should it become necessary in the police and fire regulations, or for other cause, to either modify or repeal this permit.
