161 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Mar. 6, 1919. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of Feb. 27 and 28 and Mar. 4 were read and adopted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The February reports of the Sanitary Inspector, Public Weigher and Sealer of Weights and Measures were read and ordered filed. The application of Oscar Wise, 92 Red River Street, for public service car license on his Ford car, No. 279392, was laid before the Council, and was granted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. A petition for the installation of a street light at Twentythird and Chicon Streets was read to the Council and referred to Coun- cilman Bartholomew. A petition of residents of west South Austin for street improvements and lights was read. A petition of H. P. N. Gammel for the privilege of displaying books on the sidewalk in front of his store was read to the Council. Councilman Anthony nominated J. N. Littlepage to be a foot patrolman on the police force. The nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Bartholomew, Haynes and Powell, 4; Councilman Anthony not voting. The Council then adjourned. There was laid before the Council the application of Mike Falcone, 93 Red River Street, for public service car license on his Ford car, No. 131893. The license was granted by vote of 5 yeas, no nays. Austin, Texas, Mar. 8, 1919. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, in consideration of the fact that Los Evans, Dog Catcher, about the middle of February past, was badly bitten by a vicious dog which he was trying, in the enforcement of his duties as Dog Catcher, to catch and take to the dog pound, and which bite temporarily incapacitated him for work and duty; and Whereas, in consideration of the fact that the said Los Evans is an exceedingly poor man with a large and dependent family, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That one-half of a month's salary, or $42.50, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the salary for Dog Catcher in the budget for 1919 as pay to the said Los Evans for two weeks' time as Dog Catcher at Mike Falcone Service car license Los Evans Pay for injury dog bite --- Page break --- 162 the rate of $85.00 per month.
