169 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Mar. 20, 1919.
The Council was called to order by Mayor Wooldridge. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of Mar. 13, 14 and 15 were read, and were approved by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays.
Changes in list of election Judges The Mayor proposed certain amendments and additions to the list of election judges and clerks adopted on Mar. 15, as follows: That W. T. Kelly and A. L. Keller be added to the Sixth Ward list as clerks, and that Lee Carrington's name be stricken off, on account of inability to serve; and that Jim H. Hubbard be substituted for R. H. Felter in the Third Ward as clerk. These changes were adopted by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays.
Service car Licenses Applications for public service car licenses, as follows, were laid before the Council and granted by vote of 5 yeas, no nays: Jno. R. McCall, 202 East 16th Street, Maxwell, No. 180603; Chester Schacht, 117 West Fifth Street, Ford Taxicab, No. 227968.
Assistance for Federal Empl. Service R. F. Bacon addressed the Council with reference to the maintenance of the local office of the Federal Employment Service, pointing out that there would be a period of three months or more during which no Government appropriation would be available. The several members of the Council agreed that they would appropriate $100.00 a month for three months towards maintaining the Austin office.
Mrs. R. M. Thomson and E. H. Perry appealed to the Council to increase its monthly contribution to the salary of the Humane Officer. Action was deferred.
W. M. Shipe Tax valuations W. M. Shipe addressed the Council relative to the action of the City Board of Equalization in raising the valuations of the lots in Hyde Park Addition assessed by the M. K. & T. Land Company. All members of the Council agreed that the valuations as fixed by the Council for the year 1917 should be restored. The Council then adjourned.
