196 REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Apr. 17, 1919.
The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, Haynes, and Powell, 5; absent none. The minutes of April 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 15 were read, and were approved by a vote of 5 yeas, no nays. The March report of the Sanitary Inspector, and that of the Engineering, Street and Sewer Departments, were read and ordered filed.
The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, the War, now brought to a victorious close by the associated power of the free nations of the world, was above all else a war to end war and protect human rights, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That we advocate the establishment of a League of Nations. We believe that such a League should aim at promoting the liberty, progress and orderly development of the world; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That we favor the entrance of the United States into such a League as may be adequate to safeguard the peace that has been won by the joint forces of the allied nations; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be sent to the President of the United States, the Senators representing the State of Texas at Washington, and to the Honorable William H. Taft, President of the League to Enforce Peace, 130 West 42nd Street, New York. The resolution was adopted, after discussion, by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Wooldridge, Councilmen Anthony, Bartholomew, and Powell, 4; Councilman Haynes not voting. APPROVED, Apr. 17, 1919: A. P. Wooldridge, Mayor. The Council then adjourned.
