REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, May 01, 1919.
The Council was called to order by Mayor W. D. Yett. Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes, and Ward, 5; absent none. The reading of the minutes of April 30 (afternoon session) was deferred until a later meeting. Councilman Ward nominated Councilman Haynes to be Superintendent of Receipts, Disbursements and Accounts. He was elected by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, and Ward, 4; nays none. Mr. Haynes nominated Councilman Ward to be Superintendent of Parks and Public Property. Mr. Ward was elected by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, and Haynes, 4; nays none. Councilman Graham nominated Councilman Alford to be Superintendent of Police and Public Safety. He was elected by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes, and Ward, 4; nays none. Mr. Alford nominated Councilman Graham to be Superintendent of Streets and Public Improvements. Morris, and Mr. Haynes offered the following resolution: RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Superintendent of Police and Public Safety be and he is hereby authorized to purchase a desk for the Chief of Police. Austin, Texas, May 3rd, 1919. The Council met, with the following members present: Mayor W. D. Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. The bids of the Austin National Bank, American National Bank and the Citizens Bank & Trust Company were opened and read by Councilman Haynes and upon his motion, they were referred to the City Attorney and City Auditor to report back to the next regular meeting of the Council as to which is the highest and best bid. The resolution was carried by the following vote: Yeas 5Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. The following resolution was introduced by Mayor Yett: Whereas, the firemen employed by the City of Austin have no relief from continuous service in the way of relays; and Whereas, it is the judgment of the City Council that a two weeks' vacation can safely be granted each and every fireman in the employ of the City in such manner and at such times as may be determined by the Chief of the Fire Department; and Whereas, this vacation is well merited upon the part of those who have so faithfully served the City in the performance of every duty required of them, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That this vacation be granted as applied for and in accordance with the laws governing same enacted by the Thirty-sixth Legislature.
