    The council approved permits for new gasoline filling stations (Gulf Refining Co. and Texas Company applications), a bank's sidewalk clock, and infrastructure for the Austin Gas Light Company.

    A $5 per month wage increase was approved for the City Hospital Cook.

    An ordinance was passed to schedule an election, enabling qualified voters to decide on a proposed amendment to the City Charter.

Perm. given Citizens Bank and Trust Co. to erect Clock on sidewalk in front of Bank Report of R.C. Leonard O.L. Woodward granted Leave of Absence. Jno Hornsby City Clerk Petition of Gulf Refining Co. for Gasoline Filling Station granted. --- Page break --- 233 The application of the Texas Company for the establishment of an auto-filling station at the corner of 19th and Guadalupe Streets was received and filed and referred to the City Attorney to draft an appropriate resolution, granting the privilege. The Council then recessed until 2:30 P. M. Swann Furniture Co. Permission given The petition of the Swann Furniture & Carpet Company to erect a to erect Iron Garage. corrugated iron garage at their warehouse, 302 East 4th Street, was granted by the following vote: Yeas 5, nays none; said work to be done under the supervision of the City Fire Marshal. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: 5°° per month Added to City That the sum of Thirty Dollars ($30.00) be and the same is hereby Hospital Cook's transferred from the Miscellaneous Funds in the appropriation for the City wages. Hospital in the budget of the City of Austin for the year 1919, to Salary of Cook for City Hospital, said appropriation to be disbursed at the rate of Five Dollars ($5.00) per month, beginning July 1st, 1919. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas 5, nays none. Monthly Reports The reports of City Public Health Nurse, City Food Inspector, and Superintendent of Nurses of City Hospital/were read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed. CALLED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 24th, 1919. The Mayor called the Council to order. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. All present. Councilman Graham introduced the following resolution: Austin Gas Light Co. Whereas, the Austin Gas Light Company has made application to place a Petition concrete footing for a smoke stack under the sidewalk on the west side of granted Medina Street between Third and Fourth Streets, conditioned that said concrete footing shall be approximately two feet below the present grade of the sidewalk and not to extend into Medina Street more than three feet from the west line of Medina Street; and Whereas, it is shown on account of the grade of said footing that all rights of the city will be protected in the free use of the sidewalk in question, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That permission be granted to the Austin Gas Light Company to place said concrete footing under the west sidewalk on Medina Street between Third and Fourth Streets, conditioned that said footing shall not extend more than three (3) feet beyond the west line of Medina Street and also that the elevation of said footing shall be such as to not interfere with the free use of all portions of said sidewalk. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Yeas 5; nays none. The petition of W. J. Jones, President of the Austin Street Railway --- Page break --- 234 Company, to erect poles along 29th Street, was introduced, and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, was referred to Councilman Ward for his investigation. The motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas 5; nays none. The Council then adjourned. J. W. Scarbrough City Clerk. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 26th, 1919. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, duly seconded by Councilman Ward, the Minutes were adopted by the following vote: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; 5 ayes, no nays. Bids for supplies for Dec. 31, 1919 accepted. The bids for supplies, etc., for the period from July 1st to December 31st, 1919, were opened and read. The bid of Rhambo & Woodard for hauling and furnishing coffins, etc., for colored charity patients was accepted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; nays none. Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Statesman for printing be accepted. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. All other bids were referred to the different councilmen for them to determine which is the best bid. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 28th, 1919. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, All present. Mayor Yett introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING Ordinance Ordering Election on Charter Amendment TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN. The Ordinance was read first time. On motion, the rule was suspended and said ordinance was passed to its second reading, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; Nays, none. The Ordinance was read the second time, and on motion, the rule was suspended, and said ordinance was passed to its third reading and final passage by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; Nays, none.
