248 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 14, 1919. The Mayor called the Council to order. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward; 4 - absent Councilman Alford. The minutes of the last regular meeting were then read and adopted by the following vote: Yeas, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward; Councilman Alford absent. George S. Dowell presented the claim of W. H. Newton for one Jersey cow killed. Upon motion of Councilman Graham, seconded by Councilman Haynes, the claim was allowed in the amount of Thirty Dollars ($30.00) and the City Attorney was instructed to draw up proper resolution. Motion carried by a vote of 4 ayes; no naysCouncilman Alford being absent. The petition of C. D. Caswell, et al was read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes was referred to the Street Commissioner. The motion carried by a vote of 4 ayes, no nays, Councilman Alford being absent. The petition of Mrs. Nordwell, et al, was read and referred to Councilman Graham. The Council then recessed. Gd. Dowell claim W. H. Newton C. D. Caswell, et al. Petition of Mrs. Nordwell. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 18, 1919. The Mayor called the Council to order. Roll called showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward; absent Councilman Alford. A committee representing the Housewives League, composed of Mrs. Roger [illegible], Mrs. W. G. LeMay, Mrs. W. R. Long and others, appeared before the Council in the interest of having the Child Welfare Nurse put under the supervision of the Housewives League. After hearing the arguments of this committee, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That, after hearing the evidence of the Housewives League and others interested in the branch of the child welfare work that employs the child welfare nurse to distribute milk and care for the children, the Council hereby recognizes the Housewives League as being responsible and in charge of said branch of the child welfare work, and that the Child Welfare Nurse is responsible to said organization. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward; nays none - Councilman Alford absent. The Council then adjourned. Housewives League. J.
