263 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, October 02, 1919. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; absent, none. The Minutes of the last regular meeting were read, and upon motion of Councilman Ward, seconded by Councilman Graham, the Minutes were unanimously adopted. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that the petition of Haskell Smith, et al., asking that certain street improvements be made, be taken up. After the reading of the petition, Councilman Haynes moved that the petition be referred to Councilman Graham, asking that he furnish such relief as in his judgment was justifiable under existing circumstances. Motion carried by a vote of 5 ayes, no nays. Penalty on Taxes. remitted. Theological Seminary Councilman Haynes moved that the penalty assessed against the property of the Theological Seminary for the year 1918 be remitted, the taxes and interest having been paid. Motion carried by a vote of 5 ayes, no nays. Monthly Reports Officers The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, Jas. H. Maxwell, Inspector of Weights and Measures, and A. S. Anderson, Public Weighter, were read and ordered filed. The communication of S. J. Von Koerneritz was read and ordered referred to Councilman Ward. Petition of Clerks. Half Holiday The petition of the office employees of the city, asking for a half holiday on Saturdays, was discussed and passed, subject to call. The petition of J. S. Jones, et al., asking that the wooden building on Wood Street be condemned, removed or destroyed. On motion of Councilman Alford, the petition was referred to Councilman Graham, with instructions to notify owners and take necessary steps to have same removed. Motion carried by a vote of 5 ayes, no nays. Service Car Chester Schacht The application of Chester Schacht to operate a service car was granted by a vote of 5 ayes, no nays.
