281 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 05, 1919. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present; Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The application of Jessie Roby to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The following protests against property valuations for the year 1919 were heard: Seton Thos. F. Taylor appeared before the Council and asked that the infirmary valuation put upon the property belonging to Seton Infirmary, at the corProperty ner of 27th and Nueces Streets, be reduced. Councilmen Haynes moved that valuation the matter bereferred be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried by the follownot reduced ing vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; nays none. Swift & Co. C. J. Schneider appeared before the Council and asked that the valuaFor Property tion placed upon the property of Swift & Company on Congress Avenue be Value reduced reduced. Councilman Graham moved that the assessment be reduced to $6000.00. Councilman Haynes offered as a substitute motion that the property be assessed at $6400.00,which substitute motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Property M. M. Shipe, Agent for Fred Sassman, appeared before the Council and asked that the assessment upon Lots 1 to 5 and 30 to 34, Block 36, Hyde Park be reduced. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the assessment upon these lots was reduced from $172.50 per lot to $150.00 per lot, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed until 2:30 P. M. AFTERNOON SESSION: Property valuation E. C. Gaines appeared before the Council and asked that the valuation refused of $5500.00 placed on Lot 11, Block 56, be reduced. After hearing the facts fully, the Council refused to reduce the assessment by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. G.K. Eifler The written protest of G. K. Eifler, protesting against the valuation placed by the Board of Equalization upon Lots 26, 27 and 28, Block 32, Hyde Park, was read. The Council by the following vote sustained the action of the Board; Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. J.H. Faulk [illegible] The written protest of J. H. Faulk against the action of the Board of Equalization in raising the value of Lots 20, 21 and 22 in Block 18, Hyde Park No. 2 from $350.00 to $450.00, was read. Cunningham against the valuation placed by the Board of Equalization upon an Overland automobile owned by him was read. The Council by the following vote reduced the assessment to $100.00: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 6, 1919. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford and Ward, absent, Councilmen Haynes and Graham. Councilman Alford laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, on the 4th day of November, 1919, in Cause #13778 in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, Miss Stella Brown was convicted of fast driving of an automobile and fined in the amount of Twelve Dollars and Eighty Cents ($12.80); and Whereas, in consideration of the youth of the defendant and the further fact that the Council believes the young lady has been taught a lesson by her experience, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to Six Dollars and Forty Cents ($6.40) be and the same is hereby remitted and said amount be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to draw warrant for said amount, being one-half of fine and costs. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford and Ward, nays, none; Councilmen Graham and Haynes being absent. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 8, 1919 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. Murray Graham, on behalf of the Enfield Realty Company, appeared before the Council and protested against the valuation placed by the Board of Equalization upon certain lots in Enfield Addition. For good and sufficient reasons shown by said Murray Graham, Councilmen Haynes moved that the increase made by the Board of Equalization on said Enfield lots be reduced 50%. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5, nays, none. The written protest of Mrs. L. A. E. Flack against the assessment placed by the Board of Equalization upon lots 7, 8 and 9, in block 45, was read. The Council by the following vote reduced the valuation on this property to $5,000.00, but sustained the valuation placed by the Board of Equalization upon the Congress Avenue property: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen
