297 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, January 22, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. Service Car Jas. E. Ryones The application of Jas. E. Ryones to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Fixing Value M. K. & T. L. & T. Co. $36,977.00 Councilman Haynes moved that the assessment of the M.K.& T. Land & Town Company’s property be placed at $36,977.00, value as fixed by the Board of Equalization for the year 1918. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then adjourned. Jas. H. Formsby City Clerk. Floyd Smith Elect. Sign The application of Floyd Smith to erect a new electrical sign at No. 400 Congress Avenue was referred to the city electrician. Appt. A. J. Hamilton and Davis Cotell Firemen Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Alford nominated A. J. Hamilton and Davis Cotell to be hosemen in the Austin Fire Department to succeed Harper Nations and August Von Rosenberg. Nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nays, none - Councilman Alford present but not voting. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: Refund % Double Assessment Doole & Sons That whereas, the statement of Fred Sterzing, Tax Collector, herewith attached, shows a double rendition of personal property for the year 1919, one by Doole & Sons and one by David Doole, Jr., and that they are entitled to a refund of $8.42 on one of said renditions, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the City Clerk be instructed to issue a warrant for that amount to Doole & Sons out of the General Contingent Fund, and that the Assessor and Collector be authorized to cancel one of the assessments on his rolls and to take credit therefor. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed.
